Does anyone know if you can use say a K&N filter cleaning kit on an Airaid filter without negative consequences? I can get a K&N filter cleaning kit real easy but the Airaid kits are not available here.

I couldn't see them being that different...but if you don't get any good responses here maybe you could e-mail K&N or AIRAID to see what they say.

Three things to keep in mind:

1. The biggest problem with the cotton gauze filters is that they get cleaned too often.

2. The second biggest problem is people put too much oil on 'em after they've been cleaned.

3. They filter BETTER when they have a layer of dirt on them.

That actually is a good bit of information. While skimming it realized that I probably need to get a air restriction gauge for the intake. That way I can use it rather than the mileage or 'looks dirty' method. Why a $250-$400 kit doesn't come with one is beyond me.

My 02 has an air restriction guage on the intake. It is near the airbox. I think on some intakes you can put it on the aftermarket one, but Im not 100% positive on that one.

I got an interesting reply from Airaid on using a K&N cleaning kit for there filter. Of course this is not the recomended practice but they did say that if all else failed that it would work. They said the difference is the oil. K&N's oil is thinner. They also gave me a contact to see about the cleaning kit so I'm trying that before I get one of the K&Ns. Thought everyone would like to know. E-mails on the other computer, I'll post it later once I finish some system work.

If you buy the associated re-charger kit it will have all the instructions you need to follow right with it. The hang-up is always waiting for it to dry before you re-oil. (truck downtime unless you have a spare ready to go)

but like it was said before .... don't over clean it .... it's designed to get a layer of crap on it then filter better without restriction.
