Let's see, I really like the instrument cluster colors, it really gives a refreshed look to that cluster, the seats look good with the SS in them, and the minimum trim look really sweet. I'm not a fan of the full de badging but just the simple SS on the side really looks good. I don't like the engine cover, that's the cheap way of pretting up an engine compartment that has a very slick engine in it. and I don't care for that door protector, it just takes away from the over all sleak look to the truck. Overall I have to say it is a very nice truck.

Now it's time for me to go take off my door plastics and remove the roof rack.

1) How do you like the exhaust sound? Does it do the engine justice?

That's awesome we're looking forward to all the good things you have to say about the truck

Is the roof rack "truly shaved"? or did they cut the corners and just plug the holes for the rack?

Some pics of the CAI would be sweet too, how they integrate with the lights, though I'm sure you're not going to be too quick to take it apart.

You can order the SS option with both the LS and LT models. When you order the SS with the LT model you get the leather seats.

Marty

homertime
10-25-2005, 10:05 PM
It's essentially like they added SS as a new engine option - you select LS or LT as usual, and pay like an extra $5000 for the SS

You can get the basic cloth - I don't know if the LS SS comes with the fog lights - or you can go top of the line with the LT

In total there are probably 4-5 different levels of SS that one could own. It's nice for those that just want an LS with a performance upgrade

deathbynosleep

you'd think with a car like this they would at least give you a full tank of gas. Unless of course you've driven it 100 miles already.

GTPprix
10-26-2005, 11:05 AM
LOL They gave us a gas voucher for another full tank of gas so it's covered ;) The Chevy Dealer I deal with (Garber Chevrolet here in Midland) has been by far the best Chevy dealer I've ever dealt with and we've bought quite a few vehicles over the years.

You guys are correct, I didnt let them PDI it but I will have to take it back and throw it up on the lift to complete some things. There is an exhaust hanger that needs to be installed and a bracket to center the exhaust in the fascia extension (which was in the back seat). So there is some more left to do. I'll probably start that today :)

I wasnt trying to make anyone jealous or anything, just figured I'd share this with you guys; I know as an ethusiast I always loved seeing things like this!

Oh, and it has 23 miles on it :)

How does it drive, performance, fuel consumption and most important SOUND???????

TBSS
10-26-2005, 01:49 PM
Okay, here goes...

1) What does the exhaust sound like? Throaty? Mellow? Raspy? Does it seem 'congested' at all? I'm curious because of the single exhaust.

2) Have you been on the freeway yet? What RPM's does it turn at speed? Does it seem like it is winding out?

3) What does the intake look like? Can you take the engine cover off? (looks like a simple plastic swivel screw). How about the stock air box, what does that look like? More pics of stuff like this under the hood would be great.

4) What is in that hole to the lower right of the steering wheel, where the 4WD switches go (where the cheesy plastic plug goes on the regular 2WD versions)?

5) Can you get more pics? Different angles and such.

Really appreciate it, thanks.

According to some specs I have read, the TBSS has a clutch fan, not electric. Supposed to be better for towing.

If your towing it's good to see what the engine is doing. Rarely do I look at a Tach when shifting a manual transmission vehicle. Just listen to the engine and it will tell you when to shift. I personally like the different colored tach.

Newbie here.. - Real nice SS.. Anyone know the MPG stats for that beast?

1BADWS6
10-27-2005, 08:00 PM
I believe it's rated at 15/17 for the AWD.

4DRvette
10-28-2005, 12:49 AM
I think I read 14/17 somewhere for the AWD, but I just call it low. I talked to a GM guy that drove a white TBSS to Corvettes at Carlisle back in August and he said he was getting about 13 -- not surprising since he wasn't paying for the gas.

I supose that's what you get with a 4spd AT mated to 395hp in 4600 lb truck. For me, it's the only downside to the SS. I wish they had put the new 6 speed paddle shift AT from the C6 Vette in it. My Dad and I figure GM is trying to use up the last of the 4L70E transmissions since the 6spd is now the sole AT for the Vette.

blowingsmoke

13 on the highway? I guess it's a lead factor... like how much lead you have in your right shoe :undecided

GTPprix
10-28-2005, 11:15 AM
We got 15-16 on the highway last night, it's got about 65 miles on it now so I'm assuming with a proper break in and some tweaks we can probably nail 18 on the highway if all goes well.

When I put the truck up on a lift to put the rear valence extension on I was an idiot and forgot my camera. So I'll have to see if I can snag some more pics for you guys.

So far it's great, highway noise is nill and the ride if firm yet not spine jarringly bad. I'm going to wash it today and get some of those special request engine pics you guys have been asking for such as airbox ect.

Would it be better to get 4x2 for the speed or 4x4 for the traction? What are the pros and cons?

ScarabEpic22
11-06-2005, 06:06 AM
Welcome to the site sleeper22!

Would it be better to get 4x2 for the speed or 4x4 for the traction? What are the pros and cons?
There is debate about this, but personally I think the AWD would be about the same speed as the 2WD, but with better traction due to the AWD. But, the AWD weighs something like 200+lbs more than the 2WD due to the transfer case and AWD components.
Current SS owners will be able to help you out a little more than I can.
