I tow a camper that weighs around 4500 lbs. I have a 02 TB with the 4.2 all stock ( I am ordering a pcm and a K & N intake). I want to add a tranny cooler also. What do you recommend as far a brand and size? I don't know much about tranny coolers. Any help would be great:thx

Not sure what type of cooler but TCI has a larger capacity pan and a "bung" fitting for a temp gauge. I would definately add this to your want list if you plan on doing alot of towing. I think they are a couple hundred bones and I'm not sure what is offered by other vendors but it's a start.

Even if you don't tow I think anyone should look into adding an external trans cooler. Most people that I have seen on here recommend B&M trans coolers.

I'll be adding one too, in about another 20k. I'll be right at 75k, and I'll do a whole flush, add a trans cooler, and a shift kit. I've read that most tranny failure is due to heat...which the tranny helps with, and the shift kit will shorten shifts, which will help improve life too, as the tranny wears more over longer/smoother shifts.

On that deeper pan, does the "bung fitting" come in it, or is it one you must tap yourself? I could definatly go for a trans temp gauge, and would that "bung" double as a drain plug? if someone were really serious about adding some serious life to their tranny, this would definatly be the way to go, even at the sacrafice of a few bucks.

Yes, the "bung" comes tapped...which is nice:) Seems like a nice pan. I would go with a full-sweep electric like the Cobalt or C2 gauge.

Hi Gang, just joined your forum after 'lurking' for a few weeks. I have a new '06 Envoy with the G80 (is it automatically a 3.73 ratio?) and i will be trailering an aluminum fishing boat and a 17ft fiberglass ski boat about 10X per year with a few long hills along the way. Should i get a cooler and if so am I better off going to a tranny shop or to the dealer? Also are there any performance issues to worry abotu if you add the cooler.
Thanks a bunch!

Look for a match to one of these on the RPO codes on your glove box door.
Gt4 =3.73
Gt5 =4.10
Gu6 =3.42
G80 means locking differential = Good!
A "stacked plate" Tranny cooler is the most efficient type to get. If you don't wanna do it yourself well .... you gotta trust the shop.:m2:
Welcome and congrats on your first post!

Wow! Nice pan, but for $200+ it better be.

Hey man, you dont need an aftermarket cooler at all, it is just cheap simple insurance when towing. I have 21 and 22ft boats, the 22ft weighs ~4100lbs loaded for travel and my TB towed it perfectly in 100% stock form, now with a trans cooler my trans temps are lower and the tune makes a huge difference when starting from a stop.

After reading and some research on this, I am going with this Transmission cooler (Tru-cool LPD).
