It really hurt to see this TBSS in the condition it's in. The description caught my eye because it said "SS 4X4 Repairable Rebuildable Lot Drives Must See Save". I thought to myself "WTF" does that mean? So I decided to take a peek. Here is what I saw. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320091037350#ebayphotohosting

I'm a little concerned the air bags did not deploy. Not a huge hit, but took it in the front, AND back, and airbags look intact.....

It seems like it would cost you more than it would be worth with a salvaged title to fix it up.

Here's my ride after what happened to me on Monday. I've had it all of 2.5 months. 3k on the odo. Guy in a Benz lost control in the ice on a curve, slid over into my lane, hit me head on.
No major injuries. Dealer says most likely not a total, still working on an estimate. But he did say if they fix it they will replace the frame and engine cradle. Sucks on a brand new truck.
The Benz looked much worse. I won the battle of mass. His was crushed back to the cowl.

Dang, seems like we have one huge parts lot here. Vette-SS, good thing your ok, i'd rather if they have it totalled, theres damage to the frame and besides your looking at future problems.

Yeah, maybe I should go to a U-pull-it and look for salvagable TB parts. I had a relative whose vette was totaled by a Benz... Good thing everyone was okay, and I agree that frame issues would scare me as I have several friends who have had frame problems after their repairs from an accident. Get a new TB!

Well, it would be nice to think I have a say in the outcome, but I'm thinking I don't. Right now, the dealer is disassembling to see the extent of damage. Once we have an estimate, the decision is made to repair or total. Again, unfortunately not my decision. I've made it quite clear to them I am a perfectionist and if it looks like it might be bent, scraped, etc....replace it. Up front they told me it is common anymore to REPLACE the frame, not straighten or repair it. They will strip the car done to the frame and build it back up again. The decision will probably depend on any drivetrain damage, as that cost will start adding up. But if it's just frame, because it is a new vehicle it will take a large repair bill to meet the total criteria. For reference, there are bulges pointing out of the rear bumper (and cracked paint) where the whole frame slid backward. Or better put, everything above the frame slid forward when it came to an abrupt stop.
So, just waiting on a call from the dealer. Might have info later today. If they repair, I might take this opportunity to do some upgrades. The upper plenum is busted. Wonder if insurance will notice a new upper plenum with a pulley sticking out the front?
Here's the Benz:

Maybe now is the time to say that they don't build 'em like they used to? I can recall several references to old Benz as tanks. At least it wasn't a Scion or a fiberglass Vette, the driver might not have been so lucky. Good luck with the dealer/repairs/insurance and the truck in general.

Mine is AWD, and I had no problem that morning in the snow. It was the driver of the Benz that couldn't keep it straight. He actually dropped off the right shoulder and either over corrected or jumped into a spin when he came back onto the road. I stood on the brakes when I saw him lose it but all I could do is listen to the ABS and stabilitrack make noise. I wasn't going to stop for nothin in that short of time. I never left my lane, even after impact. Everything came to a stop on my side of the road.
I did hear back from the shop. They are not going to total it. Starting repair estimate is $17k. They've torn a few things apart to try their best to arrive at that number. It's most likely to go up $1-2k as they find more damage as things are taken apart. Damage would have to approach $25k to be a total loss. I'm really not sure what to think on this. This was the perfect truck for me (color, options), and I can never get another new one just like it, but I'm not sure I really want this thing repaired....and with all the discounts and rebates I got on the purchase I would have made out like a bandit if they totaled it. Oh well, not my call I guess.

Notice in the pics where the MAF is located? Home made intake? This SS is worth about 13,000 imo / salvage yard (parted out)= 40,000.

My honest opinion is to work VERY hard to get them to tatal your TBSS.
Short story, We had an '03 Durango SLT pLUS new off the lot. 2 months later my wife got hit. They said the frame could be fixed etc. They said the vehicles damage was less than half the value of the durango (34k). They decided to fix it. Estimate started at 12k. Turns out the frame was too damaged to fix, so they ordered a new one and it took 2 weeks to get it from Dodge. They bought a new frame, and moved the Durango over piece by peice. Took over 1 month to do. This was the insurance companies 5 star place, so the work was warrantied for life that we owned the vehicle. Total cost in the end... 18k. Fast forward 1 year later. My wife has been driving this Durango daily (I was in Iraq) and has had nothing but problems. She has taken it back to the shop 13 times. so I finally told the insurance company I wanted it totalled, I was tired of the hassle and felt my family was in Danger. They finally agreed to total it and give us the value of when it was wrecked (one year earlier) and the value in California (where the wreck happened). We ended up ahead in the end, but it was a huge hassle. Just tell them you really want it totalled and won't feel safe in it in the end. JMHO.

I plan to meet with the shop and go over their estimate. Being in the biz I know there are certain things that should be replaced in a crash and I'm hoping they know as well. So if there's things that come to mind I don't see on the list, I'll start asking questions. It wasn't a super hard hit, but with belts-to-seat the seat should be looked at, knee bolsters, steering column, etc. All of those have crushable brackets to reduce injuries. All the little stuff you don't see. With a number in hand, I guess I would then have to talk to the insurance company. I'll also have to consider what they would give me in a total vs. cost of a new 07. I got one of the few remaining leftover 06's. Only had it 2 months.

Don't forget about the air bags. With that kind of damage, I would think that would be enough to deploy. You're right, find all the small stuff and that'll add up to a total (no pun intended).

Nope, you can however swap instrument clusters from a 3SS/LT TB SS into a 1SS/LS TB SS and get it to work, but almost positive you cant do steering wheel controls. I think there was one guy on the other site trying to do it a while back, and I dont know if he got it to work or not.
BTW, the SS is the only GMT360 you can swap clusters btw the LS and LT and get the DIC working, the regular TB/Voys cannot do this.
