TB SS vs. Grand Cherokee SRT-8? In styling, the TB wins hands down. But for performance, it's going to be awfully close. I still would prefer the TB. I'm a little partial to GM though.

Better overall? The TB SS. I've always like the TB's styling in general. That's why I bought one. :m2:
Faster? In stock form, the SRT-8. But I am really, really, really confident (this means you, GTPprix) that with a few minor mods, the TB SS will smoke the Jeep.
The fact of the matter is that I didn't buy an SUV for 0-60 performance. I bought it because I needed a truck that looked good and offered seating for 7. I just happened to buy one with 275 hp as well. According to my calculations, the Westers can get me up to 313 hp if I use 94 octane every one in awhile. Plenty for me to have a pseudo sleeper when you combine that with the loss of torque management.
I would pick the TB SS any day.

I also prefer the clean lines of the TB. On performance front the Jepp maybe faster, it all comes down to weight. Also the Jeep is going to be alot more money than the TB. I bet it will be north of 50K.

I personally like the looks of the TB SS better, especially in Black. As far as performance, its gonna be close. The Hemi can be woke up too, as can the SS engine.
I had an opportunity to drive the Grand Cherokee Limited for a week while on vacation a couple of months ago. It was a loaded '05, and I was impressed with the feeling of the front end under it. Just felt more solid than either of my Voys. It had the small V8 in it, and it did have a problem getting out of its own way. The 4.2L I-6 is a stronger engine.
Not to worry, I'm sticking with GM :D

On this forum, I'm sure the TB SS will be the favorite, otherwise you probably wouldn't be on this forum...
:rotfl:
Doesnt' matter, the aftermarket is much more robust for GM products...I don't think they've even cracked the computer on the Hemi, so there is nothing you can do as far as tuning (which severely limits your options as far as forced induction, etc.).
Anyone else think it looks like they modeled this latest iteration of the Cherokee on the Trailblazer?

I've owned 2 V8 Grand Cherokees, and honestly I have loved them both. The 2nd one was 2wd and had leather, and hands down the most comfortable seats of any vehicle I have owned. With the V8's, neither was a slouch when you hammered the gas, especially the one with the 4.7L (It was a 2001). The fit and finish were very good, and I didn't have any warranty issues. That said I expect the SRT8 to be frickin sweet, and I am sure it will be a runner. BUT....
You can't tow more than a Jetski with it, if anything at all (center exhaust=no tow package)
Sticker price is estimated at $44,000+ ($10K more than a similarly optioned SS)
No deals to be had on anything HEMI, let alone SRT (Rebates and GM Card on the SS)
Gas Mileage is going to SUCK, just check out the other SRT vehicles with the 6.1. If a car is getting under 20mpg HWY, then just think what this brick will get.
The TBSS is going to offer much better bang for the buck, and will meet all of my needs, so that is what I'm after. The Jeep is cool, but WAY expensive for what it is. If the pricing were closer, I might have considered it.

I'm a big guy, and when I was shopping for the TB, the dealer insisted I sit in one of the used Jeeps he had on the lot, and I barely fit into the seat. Not to mention I like the look of the TrailBlazer a LOT more.

To get significant gains from a camshaft you end up sacrificing driveability due to moving the power up the RPM band. Look at the power curves of those cams....oh wait, you can't, because they don't show them. Wonder why?
Also, you really aren't going to get a lot from a radical cam if you can't tune for it. Is there any tuning that can be done for Mopars yet?
The only cam that I would consider would be the 260 because I bet it is the only one that you don't end up losing significant low end on. With the others, you'd have to get an aftermarket torque converter to get into the power curve. Fine if you're building a race truck, but not for a daily driver.

A very good racer friend of mine has been trying to build up a 5.7 hemi. He's had nothing but roadblock after roadblock. Read the message boards. Stick a cam in get engine service codes galore. Kenne Bell has been promising a blower application for over a year, they can't get it to work right, delay, delay, delay. DC won't open up the engine management system. Royal PITA.
The SRT8 package is impressive. It will beat the TBSS stock for stock. But the best value for me is what I've ordered. :D

Actually, I like the sharp edges the Jeep has as well as well as its low profile stance. Only problem is that its tight inside and has limit cargo space and has a hard plastic dash....
Oh... my bad, I though we were talking about those toy Power Wheels

My choice would be the SS. Has much cleaner lines, powertrain is more bulletproof than what the Jeep has, and the SS is a real bargain compared to the Jeep. :m2:

Well, I bought an SS, so I guess you know where I stand... I do think the SS is better looking though...

As for price, this is what the guys over on the SRT forum are saying...
Production is slated this month and should be hitting the dealership at the end of the month or early December.
The price should be $39,995.00
IMO they screwed up the new Jeep. I loved the last version, it was a classic style that never seemed to age. The new one, however, lost some of the character of the old one.
I like Chrysler cars, but I don't really care for their trucks' styling. The biggest abomination IMO is that Durango....it looks like a Ram Truck had sex with a PT Cruiser, and man, that is one ugly child.

The Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the quickest and most powerful Jeep ever, powered by a 420-horsepower 6.1-liter HEMI V8 with full-time 4-wheel drive. SRT8 standard equipment includes front fascia with integrated brake ducts, new rear fascia, 4-inch exhaust tips, performance front seats, carbon-fiber look interior trim, aluminum interior trim, 20-inch 5-spoke aluminum wheels, dual exhaust with bright center-exit tips.
