Paint or Powdercoat

I am looking at changing up my stock SS rims. I want to make the rims black, but keep the stars the polished color. I am not sure if painting or powdercoating is the best way. I know there are people that have painted, but couldn't find anything about powdercoating. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

Here are some powdercoated, SS rims, they look pretty damn good. There was another thread on here whith the same thing, but he said that depending on the light source the rims looked stock, black, or a gunmetal color. I'm thinking it was due to a light powdercoating application. Could be cool to do it in a color lightly so it gave it that anodized look, a clear 'tinted' look.

Make sure, if you have them powdercoated, that the shop will insure the wheels and their work. Aluminum can, when heated, "outgass" which will cause bubbles in the finish, look trashy, and be expensive to correct.

Otherwise, there are a lot of really cool finishes available in powder coat, colors, textures etc. Hot Rod magazine recently powder coated essentially all of a camaro: wheels, body (as a primer), cage, etc. They call it project f-bomb. :m2:
