View Full Version : Trailer Brakes on TB SS?

I have the trailer brake aux harness. It obviously hooks into the vehicle harness and comes out in a 4 way connector. There are a couple of other wires which I think are for the trailer brakes if equipped.

I have a 7 way connector on my trailer. I also have an adapter harness that has a 4 way on one end and a 7 way receptacle on the other. I'm assuming I can just route the extra wires into that jumper harness??

Anyone else run into this problem and what did you do to get your trailer brakes working? Thanks.

These trucks are all plug & play...there are wires under the dash for your trailer brake controller. And in the rear, you have a connector that's already wired for the trailer brakes. There has been a bit of confusion though, as to what connector is at the back of the SS. Some guys just have a wierd connector that gets pluged into the factory 7 blade connector (like on the rear of LT's & LS'), and some guys said that the SS came w/ a 4 pin connector that plugs into the rear connector. What came with your SS; can you post pics?

Also, please click "edit profile" under User CP and give us some info about yourself & your TB

Thanks. No pics right now, but I can get some later on. Mine has the little plug (Cap) behind the bumper cover. Someone else posted a pic of it in another thread recently. Thanks for the info---it helps.

Mine came with 2 adapters. Both will plug into that plug behind the bumper cover - one is for a 4-pin trailer connector, and the other is for a 7-pin "RV" type trailer connector. If you use the 7-pin and use electric brakes, you just need to hook up your favorite trailer brake controller inside the truck. The wires are already there, under the dash, taped up out of the way next to the drivers kick panel, and labeled. It doesn't get much easier (except the fullsize trucks that can just plug in their brake controller wiring adapter under the dash, where we have to splice in).
Also, if you want the "charging" wire in the 7-pin connector to be live, you have to hook that up under the hood. Again, the wire is already there (with a ring terminal already on it), you just have to pop the fuse panel cover, put the ring terminal on the 12V stud (already there waiting), and secure it with a nut (you have to supply that - 6mm I think).

It seems that the problem is that guys aren't getting these adapters with their SS's when they are new :hissy: It may help if you post the Part Numbers of the 2 adapters that you got so all of the SS members actually know what they need

You can list the part #'s in our resource section :D

OUTSTANDING!!! Great info! Any part #'s would be great. Thanks again.

No problem, I'll check when I go out to lunch and see if there's any part numbers on them. That sucks, it sounds like alot of people are getting ripped on this. I wonder what the heck the dealers are doing with these extra adapters? Or if it's the factory that's forgetting to ship them???

Kind of off topic, but I'm just curious... I also got a hose for the compressor, and a cargo net. Did you guys get those?

I got the hose, but no cargo net!

Did anyone get the cargo cover --- I didn't get one. My vehicle is an '06.

The cargo net and cargo shade were ordering options....at a cost. Neither were freebies. I don't have either, and I don't miss them.

I'd like to have the cargo cover so people can't see what's back there (sub box, box of money, etc)....Any idea how much they cost?

Well, I looked and the 7-pin adapter doesn't have any GM p/n that I can see. What it does have is a "Pollak PA66-GF30" molded into it. I'm sure that won't help you at the Chevy parts desk, and I'm not sure if a regular truck/trailer parts store could get it or not. I can take a pic of it if you think that might help?

It sounds like you already have the 4-pin adapter, but that one does have a part number on it. There's a sticker around the wires with "10365399" on it.

BTW, the 7-pin adapter does not include any wire like the 4-pin does. It's just a molded plastic adapter.

Hey bowtienut, Can you explain your comment about "charging" wire? I just turned in my 05 Envoy and had the brake controller swapped from the Voy to the new SS. I had the controller installed on the Envoy when I picked up my trailer and they mentioned that the battery in the trailer would be charged when it was plugged in to my truck. Did I forget something from my Envoy? I don't remember there being anything under the hood???

On the underhood fusebox there is an extra stud located closest in toward the engine. There is a red wire on a ring terminal in the pack of wires right below it that when this wire is connected will supply a +12V wire to the trailer plug.

Is it the female portion? In other words, you would plug your 4 pin harness into it---thereby allowing a 7pin connector from the trailer (male) to hook up???

Cool:thumbsup: They may have hooked it up and didn't tell me. If it wasn't snowing right now I would check it now. Yes, I'm being a puss! Thanks again:thx
