I've been away from the car hunt after finding myself totally undecided between the SS and the GTO. I also threw in the Impala SS and Acura TL to make things more indecisive. However, this time the wife is in on the SS idea.

The 0% and 4000 off offers are still running, and they have quite a few at the nearby dealerships. I kind of like the idea of 4000 off the sticker, less tax, etc especially with a good down payment. I noticed some used 06 models going for high 20's which scared me a bit, but I guess thats just the nature of cars, they lose value right off the lot. Did more people take the 0% or the 4000 off? I wonder if you could negotiate to maybe 5 or 6k off?

Anyway, they've got red, black and silver at the dealer. Taking the wife for a spin tomorrow. I nearly bought the GTO a couple weeks ago. Tough decision!!
I'm also going to be KEEPING my 99 Z28 with 78k miles...trade seems like a big ripoff the more I look into it. I'd rather sell it later and get cash in my pocket.

I love my SS and the wife steals it everytime she wants to "run a errand"! I don't mind, she looks hot with her foot on 400hp!!!:drool
I leased mine but the 0% is a great way to go!!!

Personally, the GTO's are amazing but they arn't exactly a great daily driver (some make it work, some can't with the climate and unpredictability of the car) and given the fact that the SS is just as fast and just as capable, i'd go with the SS. Everyone always makes a point to warn about gas mileage. I won't say it's a big deal if you're getting the 2WD like I did. If you get the AWD, you'll get great hole shots, great all year round traction, but torturous gas mileage. The 2WD is just fine, with the appropriate amounts of respect given in low traction situations. And it gets very similar gas mileage numbers to an automatic GTO.

This is coming from someone who owned a GTO for a year in winter and summer climates, and still traded up for a SS. LOVE the truck, completely satisified with my decision. Although I miss a car, this makes up for it 10 fold.

Tell them you want 0% and $1500 off. Worked for me last summer.

The Impala SS is not worth of the SS badge IMO, skip it. A 6-spd GTO could be a lotta fun but the TBSS is a lot more 'livable' than the GTO, except for gas mileage I would expect the GTO to get better average mileage. Expect the value of a new TBSS to take a real beating, if at all possible I would encourage you to find one that is a year old, it'll be $10-12K cheaper and I don't care who you are that's a LOT of money; it'll still continue to depreciate from there but at least you won't get stuck with that first year's massive hit on depreciation.

You should head over to the GTO Forum. There are a lot of guys over there that have made the transition from the GTO to the TBSS (including myself).

Whatever you do, don't pay sticker minus $4000 rebate. I can't tell from your post if the $4000 off is from a rebate or not. You can pay close to invoice, plus get rebate off of that.

I have a 2WD and love it. Gas mileage, after the tune, is nothing to be ashamed about.

In our area it is possible to get about 2K off MSRP in addition to the 4K rebate. If they only take the $4K rebate off, it is like getting full sticker for the truck.

I've had mine 1 week and Love it. You should be able to get about $150 over invoice and the rebates, pretty easily, I did. I chose the AWD because I tow a boat & don't really care about the mileage. My last 2 trucks only got 13mpg, so I'm used to it.

Get the TBSS or wait for the G8 GT.

I would recommend checking all the usual sites for invoices prices (edmunds, intellichoice, etc.) then check www.carsdirect.com.

I work for a automotive supplier and I am told that generally we can get about $1000 to $1500 below the carsdirect price (as a guideline for Chevys).

I am also a member of CostCo but I have not tried out their auto purchase program yet so I can't say what it's worth but you might want to look into it.

Good Luck.

Amen. I'm tune-less but it's still impressive and liveable. Can't wait till I actually get a tune.

Isn't the AWD a big reason for having an SUV? 2 wheel drive is like getting a GTO with a bigger trunk and more room isnt it?

I dunno...2WD sounds good, but it sounds like another GTO or Camaro.

Although you're right on what it looks like, it's not entirely that. A Sport Utility Vehicle doesn't always classify awd or 4wd. It's just a larger vehicle with multi-purposes. If that were the case, then why have a fast SUV when SUV's are made to be 4wd and go rock-climbing?

Also, the soccer moms have done a good enough job ruining the "need" for a suv, so I figure why stop now? I won't try to change it any worse. I'll just have fun in my 2wd ss.
