i've read about torque management and about tunes..i have the pcm4less tune and really like it..but i want to know why it takes time for the power to actually kick in when u floor it...i want to get the power when i stomp on it not get that delay then full power.. Is this the transmission or just the throttle..i think gm wanted to same some bucks and not have to beef up its drivetrain or power delivery..these engines seem very powerful but im thinkin we NEED a 5 speed manual to get the full potential or at least a 5 speed auto..One member might have the key to defeat the computer but would this power mess up everything else? i do have the 3.42s but i don't think that they are causing the backlash of power instead of a constant feed....i also read that some jap cars feel like they have better trottle response but actually don't..is there a way to feel the flow of power and get the ponies hauling quicker? i wonder if the SS does the same or it seems them get the power when they want it even before a tune

I think it's a transmission thing. I notice that the engine has to be at a specific RPM to change gears...

Since I installed a new PCM4less tune about two weeks ago I no longer have that problem

I hit the gas and it now can easily move out of its own way if needed

no more hesitation crap

btw, I have 3.73's with the G80

i don't know..it just seems that the power is not distributed to the wheels as efficiently as it could be..i have significantly sped up since the tune but its not instantaneous..one of my friends had a 1989 302ci mustang 5 speed..when he floored it it moved and moved fast..he just got a 91 mustang but auto and he has teh same thing...he floors it it hesitates the is gung hoe bat out of hell...i think if we could get a better power distribution especially since i got my 265/75 16 we could save gas and get faster..i may just need bigger gears but you can hear the negine kick in after a pause

sorry if this is an obvious question but what do tunes do? Like why would you want one?

when you get a stock trunk the torque managment controls how much power you have..i believe stock don't go full throttle untill you hit like 3000rpm..it moves but not fully then when you hit the 3000 you get a surge of power..a tune corrects this along with teh shift points..you get better usage of the engine and you get the power when you need it..highly recomended..plus tunes can program you engine to accept a new tire sizes or get rid of the speed limiter i want to know why the transmission doesn't just put all the power to the wheels fast there is a backlash from the tranny then full power..after the tune..but again i have teh bigger tires and 3.42 gears which may be messing with it but i still get the strong bat outta hell rush but only after a very brief rest

much easier to drive

top speed governor is removed

shift firmness is improved

easier throttle to manipulate

more horsepower and torque

i belive this is gearing, these trucks weigh ~5K pounds thats ALOT less than a stang or a pickup even, im totally happy with my trucks get up and go, but then again i have the all famous 4.10's

Do it, its the single best performance (and driveability) mod you can do for these trucks.

I know what you are talking about, it is the engine revving to match the transmission as it downshifts (think going WOT at 30mph in 3rd gear, the engine has to rev to like 4000-4500rpm so you do not slow down as you downshift into 1st gear). It is greatly improved with a tune, but it is going to be there regardless as it is a mechanical thing that cant be changed.

Probably a combination of the auto tranny downshifting when you floor it, and throttle by wire.
