A wheel guy was telling me that i must keep my backspacing the same to have a true ride .... So I know we have a 50mm offset with 5.5 back spacing for our 17" wheels but i want to upgrade and was told just 30mm -40mm offset was all I can do and since i want bigger tires i need to miss the upper ball joint so a 20mm off set is what i would need so what is the feeling about this

The backspacing/offset that you need depends on the height/width of the rim/tire combo you're looking at. Use this website to compare your stock dimensions to your prospective ideas. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

A wheel guy was telling me that i must keep my backspacing the same to have a true ride .... Whatever "true ride" is to that wheel guy, if it keeps you from getting the optimum wheels for what YOU plan to do with the truck, he's doing you no favor. I compromised a lot on MPG to get my current tires and roofrack. I compromised on wheel bearing and CV shaft lifetime to get lift and spacers. I had to cut bumpers, wheel well plastic, and work over the rocker panel protectors to make it all fit. But to take it offroad where so few mall-crawling 4X4's ever go - that's priceless.

Here's me (in front) and Teebes in the desert. Having a "true ride". :p Maybe my mission is not the same as yours, so I'll shut up for a bit and let you get advice from less extreme modders. :D

how much has your mpg changed.... I plan on going offroad nothing like the rocky terrain you ride Roadie since in louisiana there isnt anything like that here just lots of mud and roots...more of a rutted terrain instead of a rocky one....

I think I"m down 2-3 MPG, but I was modding madly when I first got it so I don't have a long baseline of data to go on. Mud. Ick. I hate mud.

not a big mud lover either that is why i am not going to do a mud terrain tire just an all terrain...but need it to be some agressive for the mud...it is real slick here at least...
