View Full Version : Took a dive in the TB SS parts bin

Took a dive in the TB SS parts bin a few days ago. I decided that I was not satisfied with the GF front springs on my Envoy Denali. They just didn't feel right going over any kind of bumps or rough roads. Like maybe they weren't heavy duty enough. Also, if I had any front end issues, the dealerships would have pointed at the aftermarket springs as fault, even though they may not have been the problem.I didn't want to go back to OEM Denali because they would have made the truck sit too high.
:undecided Maybe the TB SS springs would work :undecided I contacted one of our members Greg who works for classicchevytexasdotcom and had him get me a price on the front SS springs. Price was good so I said ok. Just a few days later they were on my doorstep. Have since had them installed, and front end aligned OK by a GM shop. Much better handling performance than OEM Denali or the GF. I lost about 1/2" of drop in the front, but I can live with it.
I've got some other things in mind as far as mods, but if any of you members need to get some GM parts, give GREG a shot. He can hook you up and do you right on price and shipping.

Thats good to hear, now your TB is alittle bit of an SS :D
Hey Bill, could you elaborate a little on what felt wrong with the GF springs?
And more importantly, how is the ride with the SS springs? - I saw a post or two that the SS rode firm, VERY firm....just curious how much firmer they are compared to the stock units. I'm almost afraid to go try and test drive the SS....I know I'd most likely end up signing on the dotted line!
Thanks,

Ray, my OEM Denali felt real mushy and did not handle as well as I would have liked especially using the interstate on off ramps. The GF springs I had on the '03 Envoy I had I liked real well. So I thought, lets go with them again.
With the '05 Denali, I had to um.. improvise a little, because the GF kit is only for the 4.2L engine trucks. So I tried the GF on my Denali hoping for success. (I looked somewhere and found that the curb weight of the Saab 9-7x was 20# heavier for the V8 vs the I6, so figured I would be okay.) After having them on for a while, I found myself really wanting to slow down for bumps and rough road. I just did not like the suspension feedback.
Thought I would give the SS springs a go. For my liking it is the answer, plus they look OEM (because they are, just not to the Denali) so no problems with anyone saying I modified the suspension. I really like the way the truck feels with them on it. No problem whatsoever with alignment. For me the suspension is not too firm, others will have their own opinion.
I think you are probably correct in abstaining from test driving a SS  :D

2 springs, labor to install and ft. end alignment was $325.00. I'll recoup a little back when I sell the GF springs.

im looking to do the djm arms in front but quick question.
the gf springs were 1.3 drop total right and then you put in the tbss ones and went up about 1/2 inch.
so stock tb springs lower the truck .75 inches from stock. hum i think i might go with the belltech 2 inch drop spring or djm 2 inch a arm.
at least with djm 2 inch a arm i can get abotu 2.75 drop in front which will be perfect for my 265 35 22 and 325 30 22s
