Had a very alarming experience yesterday about 30 miles from home. First a check engine light comes on for a 'starting problem' says Onstar,
Then, the second one came on soon after that for what Onstar said was a throttle positioning sensor malfunction and of course the 2005 Rainier 5.3 barely ran.
Today when I went to start it up it was fine, only the 1 check engine light was on for the vehicle starting issue. Dealer replaced that part last year and said I'm covered under their 12/12 guarantee...we'll see.
My question is, the dealer said they don't have a TSB on the TPS issue, although it seemed he didn't look too hard.
And even if he did find one, he said that doesn't mean GM would pay for the repair.
He saids they only have info on a possible carbon buildup in the throttle body causing an issue.
I'm trying to avoid a big repair bill obviously. We have 52,000 miles on it already and the extended warranty expired at 49,200.
Any advise is much appreciated :thx
