Next wheeling mod for me, to improve front end traction by keeping both wheels on the rocks, is a sway bar disconnect. Without a true locking diff in the front, a lot of IFS (independent front suspension) vehicles either take off their sway bars temporarily, or have quick-disconnect links like these:

I suppose I'll be the pathfinder on this mod, but I have to ask first. Anybody fabricate or buy something like this, or contemplating it?

Here's where I've been going so far without disconnects.

Are you also disconnecting the rear sway bar links? Its a great idea, but i think you have been hanging around those Jeeps too long.

Those pics are without any disconnects, but yes, it's my secondary plan to disconnect the rear as well.

I run with the Jeeps because I often tow the trailer to the desert, and a Jeep can't tow worth beans. Since Mrs. Roadie only allows me one vehicle, I gotta do the best I can with the Envoy. Besides, it's a technical challenge.

That run, I was out with four Jeeps and a Blazer, and I was NOT the wimpiest vehicle in the crowd. A stock standard Jeep had no lift and only highway tires, and had two flats - one bent rim. Another Jeep had no locker, and I had my Eaton G80, so he was spinning tires in the air while I went up. I think it would have looked bad to have a tow strap from me to the Jeep, so he took a tow from another Jeep.

What's the alternative? :rotfl: Hang out with Ford Exploders with running boards and no limited slip at all? Har.:raspberry

Do you have any type of lift or are you stock. I take mine out every so often but I drag pan a lot.

Lifted with SuspensionMAXX spacers front and rear, Airlift 1000 in-coil bags in the rear, and 265LT/70-17 tires (31.8" diameter - stock are 29.5"). 10.5" ground clearance under front crossmember.

I had a disconnect set up on my 94 s-blazer. This is a worthwhile mod, IMO, if you do venture into the backcountry. I had a mild lift (2.5 body) and ran 31s. Makes a big difference. I did not have sway bars on the rear, however. :m2:
