We're getting ready to release a Beta version of DashHawk firmware that will track some of the DoD (Displacement on Demand) status things.

Looking for a couple people willing to download the Beta and report what you see and provide some feedback.

If interested, PM me today and I'll add you to the Beta tester list ... Beta is due out tomorrow and we'll send out email with the link to the software.

Thanks!

I'm thinking about getting a Dashhawk soon. Will this work if I've disabled my DOD? I'm guessing probably not.

It'll work fine, just the DoD stuff will always show inactive ...

For your purpose though it wouldn't work if I have my DOD turned off?

Ahhhh... I see what you're saying!

We're way beyond that now ... the DoD stuff has been working for several months now. Works on the TB/Envoy, GXP, etc.

I misunderstood ... sorry!

Are you a Dashhawk dealer? If so, do you sell them for the same price as everyone else ($299)?

kenmosher

No, I run the team that developed it ... and we're still doing software/firmware enhancements and new features for it ...

Check out the tech forums at www.dashhawk.com (http://www.dashhawk.com) (it'll redirect to a forum on MSD's site).

Ok, I understand!

I plan to purchase one soon. They look pretty cool.

Thanks,

Will the DOD info be available to Gen I Dashhawk owners?

kenmosher
02-14-2008, 05:37 PM
No, the Gen I is basically "done" ... it's totally out of memory for new features (we barely packed the 1.1.6 version in there! Had to do some tricks to get it to work!) That's why we had the big push to the Gen II (faster processor, more memory, better display) ...

Good news though, you CAN upgrade to the Gen II ... they have an upgrade program (see the website for details, I don't know them off the top of my head).

Does the DashHawk II have the ability to actually change any computer settings or is it strictly a monitoring device? It would be cool if I could use it to turn the DOD off and on or do other things.

It's strictly monitor/data logging ... for now.

You can reset codes though right?

I just ordered one online this morning. I should have it early next week. :woohoo:

Yep ... Read and Reset DTCs, control electric fans (though the TB doesn't have one, but on things like the 'Vette, the GTO, Solstice, etc. you can), reset Fuel Trims, do CASE relearn, etc.

Lots of toys!:)

Yeah, I'll make sure it's all set up before I leave. I really don't understand any of the settings etc to be honest, so I'll have to read up in the manual.

I'll put the software on my laptop so I can download in the evenings.

Put my DashHawk in last night. It looks pretty good mounted to the left of my steering wheel using the bracket that came with it. I might find a better spot later on, but it works pretty good there and is easily within reach.

How do I "set up" everything that Joe mentioned? Is that on the unit itself? I did mess around a little with it last night and changed the screens to display different things etc. I did find something interesting. Even though my POS factory temp gauge showed hard on 210, the Hawk showed 190-198 the whole time I was driving it.

First, jump on the MSD site (www.dashhawk.com/downloads.html (http://www.dashhawk.com/downloads.html)) and update to the v2.3 software/firmware.

If you want, jump into the Tech Forums and get the v2.4 Beta 12 software/firmware (releasing today) ...

You can set up parms on the unit itself OR by using the software that you download (in the settings editor). I find it easier to use the PC application and then download the settings to it.

You can also save your settings in a "Profile" and have multiple "Profiles" so you can pretty quickly change settings.

Ok, downloading 2.3 now.

If I'm just monitoring things, do I need to have parameters set up?

kenmosher
02-20-2008, 12:43 PM
As you probably see, it'll plug 'n play with a bunch of parameters preset as a "DEFAULT". That'll give you a lot of stuff to look at, but not every parameter in the default is supported on your application, so you'll see some things as "N/A".

You should play around with all the different parms available in the PC software so you can see how many things you CAN monitor ...

I tow with my SS, so I have a 6 position screen (you can change each of the 11 screens to be 2 position, 2 position bar graph, 3 position, 4 position, 6 position or 7 position) that I set up with:
- Torque Converter Slip
- Engine Coolant Temp
- Engine Oil Temp
- Transmission Temp
- Intake Air Temp
- Engine Oil Pressure

You might want to use one screen to set up some of the Displacement on Demand parameters (tells you when it's active, which cylinders are on/off, etc.) since you have the 5.3.

The possibilities are endless ...

Cool, I didn't know I could do tranny temp. I'll add that to the list of things I watch.

I've had my DOD disabled (more of a PITA than good) so I don't have to worry about it. :D

hi,I tried dashhawk on my 2007 gmc envoy denali with 5.3 engine and it would not download my oem program. I ended up talking with a tech from dashhawk and he said there are some models that this unit will not work on.

Would the dashhawk be able to control Efans if you had them installed on an SS?

There's something else going on there ... it should work fine with the 5.3 in your truck. It's the 4.2 six cylinders that it won't work with.

Make sure you have downloaded the latest firmware/software from the website.
