I'm thinking about getting a volant CAI for my 4.2L Trailblazer. Is it just a straight bolt on or is there cutting and hacking involved?

If Volant says it will fit your year truck it will be a bolt on procedure.

Bolt on
If you don't wanna pay the big bucks, just get one off ebay. All i can say about mine are good things. Pic's in my gallery

The Volant is definately a great way to go
I've had mine for months and I am very happy. Also, there is nothing pulling the old intake setup and bolting this one in place. That would be the case for Airaid, Volant, or K&N. Most of the eBay versions that glueboy reffered to are also bolt on, but none of them have the look of the Volant.

Pic's in my gallerywell the argument for not doing that is that the volant's airbox is actually shielding your intake from hot engine compartment air (at least, it looks like it extends further up towards the front than the stock airbox). You have to do some fabricating to get the cheapie to do that. like me

It looks like there's 2 volant types. One that lets you keep the resonator and one that doesn't. I think I got one that let's you keep it, but why would you want to get rid of the resonator? I guess some people see it as a sound mod i guess.

I think when Volant prototyped it, removing the resonator yielded higher hp and tq, but they redid the dynos and found that keeping the resonator actually helped hp and tq. As of right now, you cant buy the one that keeps the resonator.

On a side note, those having the 05TB you will have to modify the airpump hose, because they dont come with the elbow and hose's needed to make the connection, as was mentioned from a few members here before but someone here and i wont mention names said it came with all the parts i needed. You will see when you try to connect the hose from the parts they give you it wont work, so if your not good with your hands dont buy the system, go with K&N

My intake keeps the stock airbox too (I have a True Flow) and that said, performance-wise it's a night and day difference from stock. Mine doesn't allow me to keep the resonator, but newly-crowned Dremel kings like jimmyjam and myself can make the resonator fit again, if just for a more stock appearance. My point is that if you wanna keep the resonator, even if it is a non-functional one, you may be able to. Just think outside the box. :m2:

My bad, I meant that you cant buy the one the removes the resonator anymore.
