....and I can say that I am NOT impressed. :worried: The transmission seemed very slow to respond on shifts and even felt like it was bucking sometimes. Not sure if that is normal, but I only towed a 5x8 trailer that had a washer, dryer and dining room table/chairs in it. Almost hope that its something with the tranny, if not, I certainly don't plan on towing to much of anything else. :worried::worried:

That doesn't sound typical. Even with 3:42 gears, towing a load that light would not be an issue. I would be going to the dealer pronto.

Did you tow in 3 or drive?

Doesn't sound right. I have towed a sled trailer with two snowmobiles on hilly roads and you don't know it is there without looking in the mirror. Something is up.

I tow all the time and have never had any problems except stopping when heavily loaded. I have 3.73 gears, but can't imagine the light load you described as being noticable.

I would definitely have it checked out.

Yeah, I would look into it also.. doesnt sound right... even though I have little experience at towing, I just towed my newly acquired 23ft travel trailer weighing in at ~3200lbs and the engine/tranny responded very well. OK its a new learning curve as far in driving/towing, but a TB should handle a utility trailer no probs.

A couple weeks ago I towed an 8x12 enclosed trailer that weighed ~4000lbs loaded from Florida to Tenn. It was a heavy load but the TB took it just fine and I have 3.42 gears. Towed in 3 all the way. On some of the mountains I had to put it in 2 to make it up but it was fine.

I'd definitely go get that checked out.

I tow a 24ft travel trailer in third no problem. If you put it in OD the tranny will keep shifting in and out so I just leave it in 3rd.

i have to agree with everyone else, i have only towed once with my truck and i think i have the 3:43 gears and i didnt seem to have a problem at all. i towed a car on a full trailer so total weight was about 5600 lbs i didnt seem to have any problems at all

I towed in 3rd the whole time. I noticed today that the shifting seemed kinda "harsh" while at low speed (10-20mph). Going to the dealer on Thursday for them to look at it.

Yes, and install a good trans cooler. I did, along with a temp gauge. I tow a 4600lb travel trailer with 3.42 gears. Drives like a dream and I get 10-11 mpg. I'm impressed with the response and the mpg - 'cause I go 65MPH on the interstates. That's 2600 rpm - good for torque and mpg.

If your transmission is constantly jumping out of OD into 3rd, then yes. If you can get away with OD (rarely shifts out of it), then you are probably okay. I haven't towed my trailer yet, but I spect it'll be needin' 3rd.

Shouldnt be a problem, the biggest issue with TTs is the shape, they are a brick. At least a boat has some aerodynamics going for it, TTs are square so they are harder to pull and the car has to work harder to overcome the extra drag. BTW my boats weigh about 4000lbs and my TB tows them fine, but I really wish I had an SS.

I tow a pop-up camper, a double enclosed snowmobile trailer and a jetski trailer on a regular basis---pretty much always in third, unless going down a hill or extremely flat road

the owner's manual in fact tells u to tow in third--and several articles I've read stated that third is necessary due to the gearing in the tranny and not over-heating when in third ( I guess it gets really hot when in overdrive and the fluid viscosity breaks down)

The heat comes from the constant shifting out of OD into 3rd. If the torque converter stays locked, its not an issue. I can and have towed in OD on the flat interstates in Wisconsin without a problem (can get as good as 16mpg doing it!). However, as soon as a little bit of an incline comes or a good wind, it'll drop to 3rd. I usually tow in 3rd and run just over 60mph. I got 13 on a trip last weekend. And that's towing a box down the road.

I just picked up a 20' TT and will br bringing it home tonight, got my brake controller in, would have had the cooler and temp gauge in but got the wrong gauge. (next week).

It will be about 30 miles and plan on going 55 on the back roads to get it home and see how it does.

I tow my boat all the time and I've never had a problem with shifting or sluggish feeling at all and the boat is 21' long.
