I found these on special at Tire Rack. Goodyear Eagle RS-A Size: 255/50VR20
Price: $139.00 (each) Special Is this a good price? Is it worth picking up a set or are there better tires at a similar price out there?

RS-A's are what we use on all our police cars. They have excellent traction but, depending on the driver, I've seen them last between 11K miles and 36K miles. That is a decent price for retail sale, but, as a law enforcement agency, we get them for about $280.00 a set.

But yeh I say that is a good price, I have 34k on mine and about 25% left on them, I think i may have to jump on this.

Wish I could, I tried to get a set for a Crown Vic (retired highway patrol car with 43K miles) I used to own, but they explained how they are subsidized by Goodyear and the State of Florida. I believe the told me they normally retail for $180.00 each.

I've used them on another vehicle (2001 Z28). Dry traction was respectable (but not top of the class by any means). WET traction was just sad. Sad I tell you.

In my opinion they are horrible...they are somewhat respectiful in dry weather but are horrible in rain and snow. Only are they good on a hot summer day.

I'm surprised the RSA is still around since I had them on my 96 TA. Of course they didn't like snow in that car (any snow). 2000 Grand Prix GTP they lasted for around 50k but their winter performance was pitiful after the first season.

I now have them on my Impala SS and will replace them as soon as I get a good enough reason. There are just so many better tires out there, I wouldn't waste my money on these if I had a choice.

I agree - every car I've had with RSA's as an OEM tire was so much better with Michelin replacements.

For what it's worth, even when I was a police officer for a major agency they knew they sucked - once the OEM RSA's were gone - we got BF Goodrich tires - much stickier.

34K....50K....wow, i thought i was doing good to get about 20K out of a set :p

but no, that's not a bad price if you're happy with the RSAs. i guess i'm happy with the overall performance, but it's the looks i didnt like. i've got a set of Proxes in the shed that's waiting for my RSAs to kick the bucket

The problem with GM is that they put the RSA on just about every sporty car they can find, TBSS, TA, Camaro, Grand Prix, Impala, CTS V. All of those cars are extremely different. It provides a decent ride for all but there are alot of better options for each car.

I guess I need to take my foot out of it. I am sitting just shy of 15K on my tires and pricing new ones. I'm no grandma, but I have gotten 36K out of decent tires on all thre of my Jeep GC's in the past, and I drove them pretty hard as well. Oh well, I don't expect miracles out of tires, but 15K is pretty sad for almost any situation...

I was lucky to get 15k on my CTS Vs Goodyear F1 tires.

it's all in how you drive. I have 17K on mine and have half the tread left. I will easily get 30K out of mine. I drive mine like I stole it. A lot of it has to do with how hard you corner and stop. Some people are just better at getting better mileage out of their tires. Kind of like Nascar.

15k was high for the OEM CTSV tires. You are right though. I had a lot of highway miles but some were very spirited driving in my Grand Prix and the RSAs lasted 50k with some summer tread left if it wasn't snowing.

My driving habits have changed a bit in the past couple of years, a lot less highway and many more city miles. Probably has a lot to do with it. I dirve everything like I stole it... Expedition, Saab 9-5(wife's), Grand C's, whatever... I know there's a price to pay when you play.... but 15K on tires is new to me. Maybe I should be a little less aggressive on the stop and go bit of my driving..:undecided
