Hey guys, new here. Great site. Lot's of helpful info on here!!

I just installed the K&N Air Intake System (P/N - 63-1110) on my wife's Envoy Denali. Supposively this kit fits the 2005 5.3l engine. I had to do some customizing though. Anyone else have this kit with similar problems:

1. Drill hole in plastic intake tube for Crank Case vent hose
2. Plastic intake tube is 1/8" or less from the fan (scary!!!)
3. Crank Case vent grommet/hose not included so I used a PVC valve stuck in the hole I drilled in the plastic intake tube with some heater hose connected with the OEM valve. (Actually looks ok)

**Would using an oil catch can in between crank case and intake tube be a good idea?

**Anyone else have this kit installed on their 5.3l??

Thanks in advance for any opinions. Just wondering if anyone else had these issues. I'll get pics up shortly.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your problems with the K&N CAI. I have the Vector CAI and it fits fine.

The K&N Air intake system sucks!!!! I just checked it this evening after having it in for about three days and the fan was hitting on the plastic intake. I called K&N and they said that 1/8" of an inch clearance was normal. WTF!!!! I'm contemplating pulling this POS out. Or maybe grinding down the plastic where it meets the throttle body. Anyone else out there have this sytem on their 5.3l?

Yeah... that K&N kit doesn't seem to be too popular. I've got a MAC Performance CAI and it's been great (once I figured out how to install the damn thing... let's just say the instructions were "lacking"). It's got a huge chrome bracket that covers your air filter, and the air tube connecting the elbow at the throttle body to the filter is chrome as well. Adds a little "bling" under the hood, and it's definitely given some performance gains. After installing it, there was a noticable power gain in the mid-high RPM range... you really feel it when passing on a 2 lane highway.

It also has a hole in the air tube and includes a rubber gromet for that hose you were talking about (mine doesn't have it, so i capped it off)

I have that same kit (K+N kit) on my 2007 Trailblazer 5.3. I have had NO ISSUES!!!

The kit was a direct bolt on including the bracket to hold the intake tube to the cylinder head (pulls the tube back). I have the SS one, that is the part number I think you have. No issues except that I was cautious about where it got the air from.

Anyway, hopefully you will have a better time when corrected.

Don't take this wrong but if you can't tighten a clamp enough to keep the intake elbow off the fan then you got no business under the hood. I have had my K&N setup since February..

no issues here had mine on almost two years, maybe it was user/installer error?

Had mine for a few months now and no issues, the 1/8th space between the fan is a little sketchy though...theres one guy on the forum who had/has the same kit,and found that when he changed the fan clutch the k&n kit wouldnt fit due to the new clutch being to big,and not being able to put it back on...thats the only thing buggin me

Is it working good for you? No CEL issues like the last one? If so good deal!

So far so good <knocks on wood> I cut the opening larger on the factory air lid and I'm using it instead of the so called "heat shield". It looks very smooth and almost factory.
