Gen IV which came out in '05 have DOD in the long wheel base. '06 on both std and lwb TV's have DOD. This is for TrailVoys, not full size trucks.

Yep, enjoy that 0.7 mpg increase that DOD gives you! I had mine turned off and I don't miss it one bit!

I am firmly convinced DOD wastes more fuel that it saves me. Everytime I push the go pedal and it has to decide if it needs to be a v4 or v8, the lack of motion makes me push all the harder. THen I get the drop into a lower gear and accelerate more than desired.

I probably will turn the DOD off tomorrow and test it around town a bit.

we have on 07 Impala- with the 3.9L V6. It has Active fuel management (DOD). the system is seamless. The only reason we know it goes into 3 cyl mode is because it shows on the dash. Sometimes... if I pay close attention, I can tell a slight difference in exhausy tone- but other than that it is great.
Step on the gas and it goes- no hesitation at all. no delay.

Mine was seamless too before doing mods. I don't know about yours, but the DOD on the TB's jumps off and on CONSTANTLY and it's extremely annoying when you can hear and feel it. It does make you wonder if it really does any good at all. I'm still convinced it's as much a gimmick as anything.

It does actaully help when you're going downhill and cruising slowly on country roads, and in town once you're up to speed... It doesn't help much with gas mileage, really (MAYBE 1mpg in real life, no more than it's on), but it really does help with emissions in the low throttle situations where it speeds up the incoming air and allows it to mix better, and burn more cleanly in 4-cyl mode than it would have in 8-cyl mode with very little air (read, air moving slowly, not mixing well) entering the cylinders.

I try, and I can't hear or feel it on the '07 TB... I could slightly hear and feel it on the 3900 Impala that I had as a rental car on a bidniss trip a couple weeks ago, though...

were fairly easy drivers... with the impala- on residential streets- the 3cly mode kicks in... seemless.
I have no problem with it.
if were going lets say 25 mph... and start slowing down- at 20 mph it turns off.
but its so seemless that it may go in and out of 6-3 mode that we dont notice it unless were looking at the display

This account may prevent me from doing any serious power mods, I'd like to keep the DOD and like it being seamless as it sits now. I do wish we had a DOD indicator to help my wife keep her foot out of it.

The 5.3L in the full-size trucks now have AFM.

Yes and i could always feel mine engage even when my TB was stock. But i have been a drag racer for almost 24 years so i notice everything.

PS - it does not get you better MPG at all...

Then why does my 2006 V* get better mpg than my 2003 I6 did? 55k on the 2003 when I traded it, 42k on the 2006 do far. I get 19+ combined and 23+ HWY. I do not have a light foot either.

My 2003 TB with V8 and 3.42 gears use to get around 18-19 mpg on the highway. My 2006 Denali with 3.73 gears gets 19-20mpg. Not a big difference but the Denali also has 10% shorter gearing.

I can't even notice the DOD on my Denali. It is pretty much non existent on my Impala SS also and it gets around 25mpg on the highway.

This is all cruising at 75mph on a route that I take frequently (to Boise and back).

I wouldn't want DOD in a Corvette but I can live with it in a car/SUV that doesn't go all out for performance.

I have never seen better than 19mpg on the highway at 74mph with my 5.3 and 3.42 gears. My sis had the 3.73 I6 and it was HORRIBLE on fuel - like 17mpg highway. I have never seen better than 19mpg on ANY of the 4 5.3 Chevy vehicles i have had and they were 3.23 / 3.42 / 3.73 vehicles...

Believe what you want my friend. I have 13,000 miles and have driven this thing for 11 months now from Missouri to Florida a few times and have had the DOD diable and PCM/TCM tune for about 3 months now so i know exaclty what mine is doing...

 I'm averaging 19+ every tank every mile. I've tracked every mile and gallon ( work truck) for over 42,000 miles on this one. There's nothing to "believe". The tune is killing you. Lose it and enable the DOD and I'd bet your numbers would go up...

I'll bet you are getting better quality of gas than Nukedog. If a driver can find 100% gasoline it is worth 1 to 2 MPG better than the stuff with 10% ethanol.

Also, seems no two engines get exactly the same MPG. There are some that just get better MPG than others.

Bingo. I run 87 octane, but I only buy gas at Mobile or Shell ( close to home) On the road, I try to do the same. I just found it funny that I was "believing" something. With over 43,000 miles as of this morning I think there is enough evidence that this is not an accident or wishful thinking. There are also several posts from people with engine mods that didn't have a positive effect on their MPG.

Not to mention it is likely a lot more humid in Florida then Phoenix. I know my Denali hates California gas because I never saw more then 18mpg even cruising at 70 mph on route 99 all day. But I usually hit around 20mpg with my Denali as a standard (18 in heavy winds, 23 with a nice tailwind). My Trailblazer with the 5.3 w/o DOD couldn't hit the 20s and it had 3.42s. I wouldn't be surprised if my Denali would hit 23mpg if it had 3.42s which is about the same as what the new more advanced Acadia gets.

Gas mileage usually drops in the winter for me since I have more cold starts and the crap they put in the gas.

Let's also remember 2wd VS 4wd. Mine is 4wd and I've never gotten much over 19mpg. I still have less than 13k miles too so my MPG might improve with more miles. I also see at least a 2mpg drop with E10 gas. I'm in Wisconsin right now and I've been putting non-E10 87 octane Mobil in it and my MPG has been better. We don't have Mobil stations around my town. I like their gas.

Mods may or may not hurt mpg. I personally wouldn't give up my mods even if it gained me 2 mpg. I'm also running more aggressive A/T tires which probably drops me at least 1 mpg.

:iagree: The mods I have make the truck more fun to drive. To me if I had bought this truck just for MPG, I would have bought something else.

Well Phoenix - you have ZERO humidity and i use only SHell, Chevron, Texaco for gas.

My mileage is better in town with tune and DOD and my highway mileage has not changed.

I have beeninvolved with vehicles for years on many levels. I'll stick with what i know and tell you i am happy your is a Trailblazer that gas mileage dreams are made of...

Maybe you should read some of the other posts here before shooting your mouth off. Funny how no one else disputed what I said, they recognized that there can be great differences between two of the same engines and gear ratio combinations. Then the self proclaimed "expert" shows up. You've been involved with vehicles on many levels, sure bud whatever you say. Now you're calling me a liar? Shows what kind of class you have. Then again you are a "vehicle guru" where you live... A regular legend in your own mind.....:rotfl:

I have rebuilt a few motorcycle engines and i currently do my own data logging with a LM1/XD16 setup from Innovate so i have a little bit of knowledge on how things work. Probably not as much as you though king of the MPG..:weird:

Nuke, You've rebuilt a few motorcycle engines, so now you're an expert on all motors? Wow that's like my vet spaying my dog then going to Mayo to do brain surgery. Funny,(and with no proof,) you are the only one to doubt me and call me a liar. You simply have no class, nor honor, and you keep showing it...
