View Full Version : Tire Pressure sensor problem
TB SS

Although this happened on my TB SS, it's probably not specifically SS related. While driving today I got a low pressure warning on the LF tire (reading 5 psi). I pulled over almost immediately (to save the rim!) and just as I was about to stop, the reading jumped from 5 psi up to 37 psi (which was more in line with the other three tires) and the warning light went out.
Of course the tire was still fully inflated so this must have been a sensor problem. The rest of the day, all of the tires read nominal pressure while driving. I'll keep an eye on it.. if it happens again, I'll shoot back to the dealer for a checkup.
Odometer just turned 730 miles today. Gonna send it down the 1/8th mile track on Thursday evening.

Give it a couple of weeks, and then it will start showing zero pressure and give you a warning everytime you start the truck. Same thing happenned on my V.
I'd give the dealer a call first to see if they have any in stock. Mine had to order one and sat for 3 days waiting.

They are usually inside the wheel attached to the valve stem. You have to dismount the tire to change them.

I have just over 3K miles on my TBSS. Today I was driving on the highway in heavy rain. It lighteded up and I sped up to 78 mph. The LF sensor chimed in with the warning of 26 psi (37 for the rest). I immediatly pulled over and checked the tire. I got out the hose and hooked up to the onboard pump. In the rain on the side of the road it appeared that the tire was fully inflated. I tried to add air and the guage immediatly read 36 or so. I stopped filling and checked the sensor. It read 37 psi. I had hardly put a pound into the tire if that. So I drove off feeling very apprehensive. Then a few miles down the road the RF sensor showed 31 psi. I checked it and it seemed the same. I again drove off feeling (not so good).
After a few dry miles, the pressures seemed to level off.
I was not happy at all. I will have to talk to the dealer tomorrow.
Any thoughts?

My thoughts are that this is the first vehicle I've had with a tire pressure monitor and it does not seem to be too accurate. I've always kept an eye on my vehicles tire pressures and could feel if they were off and especially dangerously low. However if mine said there was a problem I would check it too so this safety feature is just annoying to me and I won't be sorry to see it go if I get new rims. Note to self: don't leave truck at dealer for them to order new tire sensors LOL :)
