I had the muffler shop remove the resonator yesterday, and replaced with a chrome tip and straight pipe. As I took it up on the highway to see if the droan was too much for me I heard a few pings. For the next ten miles whenever I gave it gas it would ping a couple of times.

Do you guys think it will go away? Is it a computer thing where I should disconnect the battery? Could removing the resonator cause this?

On a separate note, what droan? I didn't hear a thing. I love not having that thing back there.

I highly doubt that removing the resonator would make your truck ping. It's just a silencer, a big ugly one! let's see some pics :D

Theory... the pings were there before the resonator delete, but it masked them so that you didn't notice.

Cana moderator move this or should I start another thread? My bad on puitting in with the V8's.

I agree that perhaps it was there and I couldn't hear it, but the change in the sound is so minimal, it seems I would have heard it.

Funny, here in the 5.3 forum I see only one member with V-8 and he's got the 6.0. Where are all the 5.3 guys???? By the way, you want to see a nice tailpipe? Look at the 9-7's they did their homework integrating it into the rear end, it looks nice.

The thread starter has 4.2L written in his profile, so I'm guessing he posted in the wrong section :undecided

Who all makes exhausts for the 5.3?

Stainless Works makes a couple systems for the SS that IIRC will work on 5.3s as well.

I think those of us who have done exhausts have had them custom at an exhaust shop.

Edit: Looks like they will work on all V8 Trailvoys

The ping from a motor is much different from the ping of exhaust. My truck is 1 year old and the exhaust still pings like crazy.

Reduced back pressure does not increase c/r which would be the cause of a ping and not an afr issue...
