I just turned 800 miles on my TB SS. In the old days, it would be past time to do the first oil change. What's the current recommended mileage for the first oil change on the LS2 w/ synthetic?
I'm going to go with the recommended Mobile 1 and the appropriate A/C filter myself.

I dumped my factory Mobil 1 as soon as I could and filled it with cheap valvoline for the break-in (1000 miles). I don't think the rings seat in with the synthetics (or at least it takes longer). I'll put in some amsoil after I hit 1000 miles.

Just to catch a typo before someone freaks out about using the "wrong" oil.
5w30 is the correct weight. :)

The rings will seat fine...
If your car does eat a quart every 500 miles.....then that might be a realated problem :)

granted, motors these days get machined a lot more precise. which could mean almost no break-in required.

They manufacture the first fully synthetic motor oil. Never heard anything about them, but then again I only found out earlier about them when I began to change my own oil and then switched to Amsoil after reading about synthetics and the benefits.

No, GM fills with Mobil 1 at the factory. Its questionnable how long it will take to break in with Mobil 1. Most (many)will break-in with regular mineral oil for 500 miles or so, then change to synthetic after that.
