Im new to the forum (Hello) and want to no why the LS/SS does not have the DIC as a std. or optional acc. Im taking delivery friday on a Silver LS w/black interior and could not be happier......except for the information center controls .... Does this mean its a truer hot-rod or just a rod that will get hotter?

Besides swapping the stearing wheel, can the information center be added or is it a part of the programming in the computer?

Hasn't been done successfully to date, to my knowledge. :undecided Owners since the TB / Envoy came out in '01 have been wanting to do this. Too much computer stuff. Guess you have to pay to play.

what a great title
and you happen to say "the dic as a std."

wow such a funny post when taken in the other light
i'm going to go pee now before I have an accident

Well Ill be checkin in and searching the net for a way to do this.... With my computer background, I think this can be done fairly painless.

I'm sure I can program it into the cluster with no problem, adding the steering wheel controls would probably be the harder part.

Steering wheel controls, meaning- the wiring harness?
GTPprix

I think the harness MAY be there in the column but I'd have to check.

If you read through that link I posted below, many seem to think that you need to replace the whole steering column and the clockspring. I think that's why no one has attempted it. Someone said it's more expensive to add this feature than it's worth new from the dealer as a feature. Trust me, I would love to have this feature, if not only for the oil life and the average fuel mileage features, so if you do get this to work, document it so we can try it too.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!!

Well, friday Ill get a first hand look when its sit'n in my garage. I read the other link posted in here and it seems pretty strait forward. Like you said, if the harness is there, half the headache is eliminated.

Nice offer... Im in south texas, but that would be a great "break'n" drive for the LS2....
As far as traction control, locking diff, etc.. are these features accessible without the steering wheel controls? I figure not.

Also, you need a new cluster to get the DIC display, as the LS models only come with an LCD for milegae only and will not work with the DIC.

Cluster is the same, just a matter of calibration. GM would never spend the money twice on two part #'s that can do the same thing with different programming, although the BCM may be different..

Cluster isn't the same. The base cluster has just a little VFD odometer readout that looks like this: 888888.8
The uplevel cluster is a full VFD screen with "pixel" dots - a text display.
The "base" cluster with that HUGE window and just an odometer sitting there is retarded. I don't know what they were thinking...
In any event - If you looked over the threads and it looks like too much of a pain in the butt to add the different steering wheel, clockspring, plugs and programming etc - keep in mind you can still just swap clusters! You won't have access to the DIC/Menu functions but you will still have the full text display that gives you gauge cluster feedback, and door ajar, Driver 1, Low Fuel, etc etc.
Just buy a cluster off GMPartsDirect or eBay and swap em!

Ooooh I thought you were talking about the base (LS) SS cluster, which is the same as the uplevel cluster thats what I was referring to since this is an SS thread.

Wait a minute - now I'm confused...
There is a base TB/Envoy cluster with only an odometer...
And there is an uplevel cluster with the full text readout and DIC.
But then there is a base TB SS cluster that STILL has the full text readout but doesn't have the DIC????
Strange... I knew the fullsize trucks did that but not the TB/Envoy. I guess it makes sense to an extent then, because I'd feel ripped if I bought a base TB SS and it didn't have the cool "TRAILBLAZER SS" startup thing on the cluster.

You got it! All SS's get the same cluster which is what I was referring too (again an SS thread) which is probably why we both got a bit confused :)

OK, didnt know that. I was talking about regualar TBs, they have 2 seperate clusters, one DIC and one no DIC. I guess SS TBs have the same one as the regular TB with DIC, it is just disabled.
Sorry for the confusion.

Yes indeed... It has the digital DIC type display, but no controls at the wheel for access. How will I be able to check the TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR without those fancy controls? The inner rims have the monitors, so how to access? let you all know tomarrow if there is a harness running up the colum or not.

There's a push button in the upper right corner of the gauge cluster. It's there whether or not you have the steering wheel controls. I assume you can use that to access the tire pressures, since the tire pressures are included in the same "menu" as the odometer / timer.

Not sure I should laugh at the bad joke, or the fact that you actually know what that procedure's medical name is. :rotfl:

Not sure about the TBSS but on other vehicles I have worked on OEM's will not incluse the Tire Pressure Monitoring antenna if that option is not inculded. Therefore the the tire pressures would not be available. Again, not sure if that is true for the TBSS.

And it only took three months and 78 posts for him t realize that Trailvoy comes from the words Trailblazer and Envoy, not from S-10:duh:

The say word out loud instead of just reading it.
"add a DIC to me" It took me a second, but its pretty funny. I would think its not really called that.
