Well gang I am new to this board and just happened to stumble across it tonight. Let me say it is a wonderful place!!!!!
However, I can use some help.....
I have a 2002 TB that is coming off lease this month, and I am planning on getting a new 2005. My local dealer has got a unit in that has all that I was wanting except for the navigation system. He did a search and kept telling me he could not locate a unit with Nav in stock anywhere. So I told him to get his unit ready, however last night I came across a unit that has Nav and is available.
So my question is " Is the stock Navigation system really worth it????". I was wanting it so bad and then couldn't find but now I can get, I just don't know what to do.....
Please help

First let me say welcome to the board were glad to have you, as far as your decision only you can answer that question. why do you need the nav unit in the first place?, after you answer the questions in your head you will be able to make an informed decision on your purchase, good luck :) and get what your heart and wallet tells you. :D

Welcome. Don't really have an answer for a NAV system, but if you don't get a TB with the NAV, you can always go aftermarket. May not be the best way, but at least you can move it from vehicle to vehicle and also hide it from view when not in use. My :m2:

I agree with this, but I will say that a stock NAV unit is harder to remove than an aftermarket one (in or out of sight -- easy for someone to break in after they see the mounting base and pop open the center console). The stock NAV will also tie in much easier than an in-dash aftermarket unit would.
I say if you can honestly say you'll use it (if you go out of town or into unfamiliar areas frequently) then go for it. Otherwise, I would probably try to live without it. :m2:

Ya know... I've been amazed at how much I use my nav system. I couldn't get the stock one on the 05 I bought because they didn't have it with all of the other things that I wanted, so instead I went with an aftermarket and I use it (I wouldn't say religiously) but on the regular. My wife and I are always going to places in the city for dinner for the first time at a certain place, or deciding that we want to go to a particular store while we're out and about and it really comes in handy. And I never have to worry about my wife getting lost when she's by herself or giving me bad directions. Plus... this is the best part... it helps me stay out of busy and congested traffic areas.
So, I believe that if it's something that you want, whether you really justify that you "need" it or not, then get one (stock or not). Besides, if you're only going to get what you "need" then just buy a Cobalt cause it'll get you from A to B. But if I had to choose, I'd go with the stock. It'll look much cleaner.

Not true, by any means. Some people NEED to haul stuff from point A to point B, and that's not possible in a Cobalt. The difference is between a base, no-options model, and a loaded one with NAV. ;)

If you get the OEM Nav, you cannot get the 6 disk cd changer, nor can you play the cd player while you have the Nav on.

You are absolutely right Envoy Guy, people do need to haul things and that is the beautiful thing about a truck. However, last time I checked (February) you can get an OEM Nav system in you're vehicle without it being "loaded."
Now, I'm not trying to get into debates or arguments over a difference in opinion or the wording of a post. I was simply saying that if ya want the system and can afford it then do it cause it's worth it, and if not then don't. Don't base getting something on whether you need it or not because chances are you can get by with a bare minimum, get you from one place to the other, vehicle (whether it's a car, truck, suv or train).

So in short terms if you got the $ get it! if your like me and can do without it, leave it. :m2:
I think he answered his own question when he said "I was wanting it so bad". Never buy a car if it doesn't have an option that you really want.
I have an 03 Trailblazer EXT but I just recently bought an 05 Cadillac CTS V. It has a very good NAV system with a buit in 6 disc CD changer and XM radio. The thing puts the Garmin portable units to shame. It'll search for anything, even type of food. You want Chineese, select Chineese from the Restaurant menu. Seconds later it'll pick up every Chineese restaurant within around 40 miles. I would NEVER buy another car without a NAV system again now. I do a lot of traveling (going to Edmonton in a few weeks) but it is very useful around the city. How many times do you look for directions to a certain place around town? With a NAV system, you just enter the address.
Don't let the dealer say that you can "add it later". Tell him "Change it out now and lets deal." I bought my TB without a locking rear, something I really wanted mostly for off roading. Now it'll cost around $800 to install one, about 2 1/2 times more than if I found a new one with it.
Welcome to the club by the way!!

I was in the same position, but with two kids I can turn the CD player on and have the rear speakers work for them and have a portable NAV system on in the front. The only problem with buying it after is you have to research the products. I'm planning on geting one in the summer, right after I try out my friends portable to see how it works.

A lot of it depends on how current your software is for it as well.
Make sure you can get upgraded map software with the unit you buy. ;)
