I'm about to take the plunge and order a TBSS awd....one concern is what are the awd versions getting in around town mpg with average driving habits? My current '01 ZR2 Blazer is killing me with 11-13 mpg. I'm hoping for somewhat better w/ a TBSS. thanks

This vehicle is heavier and has a much larger engine. Just by common sense how would it remotely be any better? :)
For what it's worth, I test drove one yesterday (the one I'm picking up next week hopefully) and the computer said the avg. miles for that tank was 10.3 mpg. That my friend is absolutely TERRIBLE.

True, but you get 400 horsies and 395ft lbs of TQ to boot, so I would take that anyday to get that much power. :D
Also, the DIC has been known to be a little low on mileage, especially as the engine breaks in.

Regardless of how terrible that figure may be, I fell in love with the thing. It has some balls in the lower gears. I was SHOCKED to hear that exhaust note. The vehicle was about 20 feet away from me and my view was blocked when the salesman started the car. If I hadn't already known, I could have sworn I just heard a Vette starting up. That alone sold me on it. :D

Unfortunately, I havent seen one in Seattle yet or heard about one here (except for the AWD one going to Puyallup, for the lucky man on here who can afford one:laugh:). I really want to hear the exhaust in person, as sound clips never do anything justice.

I can live with the mpg with that kind of horsepressure. I agree on the exhaust sound...sounds absolutely AWESOME from inside in the driver's seat. I amagine when the aftermrkt gets hold of this thing it's going to really rip!

Also, don't forget the 10.3mpg on the one you drove was probably because every time it goes out someone is running it at full throttle. I've found that mind averages somewhere in the 14.xx range based on the computer...

Just remember -
...with an LS2 under your right foot, you measure Smiles per gallon now....its a new standard of measurement

First tank (not the dealer tank) I could verify was 12 mpg. Mostly city....maybe 20% highway. Trying to be gentle on it (for break in purposes).
I agree with others, I didn't buy this for MPG. Would I like better? Sure, I'd like more MPG, no traffic lights, and I wish my dog would stop hogging the bed, among other things, but this is a performance truck, and neither "performance" nor "truck" ever made me think I'd get better than 10-13 mpg.
Buy it and drive it, you'll forget about MPG!

An interesting addition would be that my actual calculated mileage was about 1.5mpg HIGHER than the DIC was reading. Bonus.

That is good to know. I realized I really couldn't judge what the DIC said due to all the salesmen took it out to joyride in. So I'm sure it wasn't driven lightly. But I really didn't care since I told them to transfer one in for me since the one I'm buying (that just came into their lot) is still in the wrapper. I told them I wouldn't buy it if it had more miles than what it came with.
I can *almost* live with 14 mpg. :D That's rough coming from my GTO which normally got 22-26 mpg :duh: My Stang gets about 14 mpg so I'm used to it.

It should be here the week of the 15th! Then we will have to get together so you can experience it!

I took a 60 mile trip cruising 70 mph with CC on and got 17 mpg. What I did to figure this is I filled the tank up until it clicked twice, went out to eat and filled the tank until it clicked twice with the exact same pump. Hell I traded in and 02 TB and never got any better than 18 mpg on the highway, so the SS isn't bad.

Well I just went through my first tank today and got 12.5 mpg to and from work. I hope it gets a little better as it breaks in. My Avalanche got 15 to 16. :duh:

Its not the LS2..... its the 4.10 final drive ratio (and the weight) that makes the MPG bad.... LS2 in the vette will get you around 20 city and nearly 30 hwy......
But its the 4.10 that gets that 4600lbs moving.
Im getting about 13 right now... i drive pretty hard and 50/50 city hwy. Its only got 370mi on it so its still breaking in too (2wd here)

2nd tank - calculated 13 MPG! If the first tank was 12, the second was 13, next year I should be getting 45 MPG. :p

I traded a Lightning 10mpg if i was driving like grandma.
Any improvement is a plus.
After a month the best i averaged is 12 mpg.

For guys that are wanting to sqeeze more mpg out of their truck, Chris' Vector tune has been yielding a couple mpg more than the stock tune. Granted if you can't tame your right foot afterwords (who could?) then it might not help, but it would easily pay for itself if you were getting an extra 30+ miles per tank out of it. It definitely does provide an endless amount of SEGs though...:D
Can't wait to get mine...

If Im drivin, I average about 13.5 or so(up from 11)
When my wife drives, I get right back around 11.0 or so.
She likes showing off as much as I do! But seriously, If your lookin at this thing, MPG should be your last concern:yes: .

An economy run champion it isn't, but, the sound and the fury more than compensate. Seriously, have about 2,500 miles and my overall mileage is 14.6MPG. Alot of my commute is on interstate that flows smoothly 70-75mph.
The vehicle is a hoot!

14.6mpg huh, well thats within 1mpg of my 02 TB I6, if I am driving it hard. If I take it really easy on starts, then I can get sticker of ~18city and ~21hwy.

Cool, they can actually get near the 17mpg hwy GM advertises!
Also, did you happen to reset the DIC during the trip, for example going to and from so as to get only hwy mileage, or is that combined?

I don't think we can get trip Fuel Economy on the DIC can we. I have only found ave. fuel econ, not instant or trip economy. I can always calculate myself, but if you know how to get that info from the DIC it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try reseting the Mileage one the DIC just after you fill up. Should be by holding down the bottom right button on the sterring wheel. This works in my tahoe but should be the same on the ss

I've had 2 tanks of gas so far in my SS. I reset the DIC at each fill. The first tank, I got 13.1 mpg, the second tank, I got 13.3.
Not terrible. I drive 50/50 highway/city. I don't have a lot of miles yet, so hopefully it will improve.

Unfortunately, thats not an issue for people in CA now, is it?
And I always drive with the AC off to help with mileage, but over the summer I found there was absolutely no difference in mileage according to the DIC with it on. Averaged 21.5mpg going without any AC and 21.5 with more than half AC over a period of 5 hours.

mine was getting 18.9 on the highway, then again it's only got 32mi on it!!!hahahaha..wished it could stay that way, seriously though I was driving at 75mph for about 15miles and it stayed at 20.3?? not bad, thought with the gears it would be worse.
