the roadie

Fellow 4WD desert fans invited to share Hawk Canyon with me this weekend. Planning to arrive Saturday around 11AM, set up a camp, have lunch, then mild wheeling around the area between S22 and 78. Main mission is offroad practice time and tour for Only1Balto . Trails: San Felipe Wash, Cut Across Trail, Pumpkin Patch, Tule Wash, Crossover trail, Shelll Reef Xway etc. (easy ones)
Bring wood for a fire Sat night - Hawk Canyon has few fire rings (and no vault toilets, picnic tables, or fees), but I have a portable fire pit. Moonrise is after 3AM, so the stars will be a main attraction.
Might do a few other trails Sunday AM, like the nearby Borrego Mountain dropoff and the slot, then pack and leave after lunch, so as to get back to SD by 3:30 Superbowl kickoff. (Pats fan, but mostly I just watch the commercials.)
Look for a silver GMC Envoy in Hawk Canyon, or a sign saying "Roadie" if I'm not there. CB useful - ch4.
Location is just off Buttes Canyon Rd. north of 78, marked by the typical small sign on 78. Turn right at the first intersection to go northeast. Goat Canyon trail is a right turn after that - don't take it. Hawk Canyon also has a sign, but if you're going north on Buttes Canyon Rd. it's behind you over your left shoulder and easy to miss.
