This is my first brand new vehicle and I want to do whatever I can to keep the paint looking brand new.
Do they come from the factory with any kind of clear coat protectant or do I want to go ahead and apply a coat or two of wax?

I've got two coats of Zaino on the SS already and going for coat 3 and 4 this week. If you have black or any other dark color...Zaino will give you a mile-deep look. It works great on other colors...but dark colors really show it off. It is also the easiest polish you will EVER do.

That's one word I've heard in every forum I've been on Mustangs, Camaros, Lightnings, they all say Zaino.

I've heard of many new car owners waxing their rides. I wouldn't say its a necessity, unless of course you are OBC.

It should be no problem to wax a new vehicle. However, you need to be careful with waxing after a repaint on a repair. You should wait about 60 days for the paint to be ready. In the factory, the heat booths seal immediately.

Personally, I am waiting until the Spring with my new SS - It's too cold to do it now!

My wife accused me of being compulsive with this truck...I don't think even the vettes have gotten this much attention from me...but they have all been yellow! This black truck looks like you could stick your hand down about elbow deep in the paint... I admit I drove my new baby in the snow this morning...and of course in the requisite salt and sand. I am stressing on when I can get it washed back up. Gotta love it!!!

The first time you wax/polish, be sure to wash your car with dawn. It will strip off the old wax.

I use Zaino, but there are some other great products out there as well. Many people really like Tropicare for its simplicity (though Zaino is really not difficult to use). Check out autopia.org for more info regarding detailing and tips.

You won't go wrong with Zaino. Couldn't agree more that you get an excellent shine. The more coats the better. Have about 8-10 on my 2005 Vette. I would disagree it is the easiest to use. Just for comparison, I am using Adams on my TBSS. Believe it or not, it is even easier to use than Zaino. I'm not certain yet that it is quite as good. Hard to tell since the TBSS sits outside (in PA) and is a daily driver while the Vette sits in the garage.

You won't go wrong with either product.

I have a 4 car garage with a 100,000 btu furnace in it. Great place to wax the TB in the winter.

I spent some time in automotive paints and I personally think it is best to let the paint breathe for a month or two before applying any sort of paint protectant. Having said that, I check the build date on the label placed inside the drivers door and if the vehicle was built two months prior to purchase I wax/polish away. Now if I could just get a nice day...

I just had my whole truck painted and I asked how soon I could wax it and he said three months, and my paint was baked on just like at the factory, so I would wait at least two months from the day you buy it unless you know your build date.

I'm planning to wait at least 1 month before putting Zaino on mine since the paint will be fresh. I've always waited 1-2 months on all my new vehicles before putting anything on.

It all depends on the build date. If the car was sitting on the lot for a couple months or longer before you bought it then no big deal.
