My only real frustration with my TB is the 4WD. When I got it at 56k, the TCCM had to be replaced. Since then, the CV boots were replaced, a pinion gear seal was leaking, and this week the actuator and some sensors were replaced (to the tune of $1100!).
After looking up the TSBs and reviewing the service manual, I probably could have done this last bit of work myself, for well under $500. Trouble is, I don't know what codes would have indicated where the problem might be. More important, if the issue had been with the TCCM again, I would not have been able to program the replacement module. So, I wonder, what things can we diagnose and fix ourselves? Or maybe I should be asking what can't we? If I understand correctly, a GM diagnostics computer has to be used to read the 4WD codes. Can a third party shop do it? Or is there a consumer level code reader that can? Yea, I know, a lot of questions. But I'm looking for a way to save myself, and anyone else who can benefit, a hefty bill in the future.
The only part/module I know for sure that has to be diagnosed/reprogrammed by the dealer is the TCCM. Anything else?
