Not that I plan on using it but once in a blue moon... but I was driving through a parking lot the other day with about 5 inches of new snow and I was toying around. I just bought my Envoy and it has about 31k miles on it. I sat in park and switched it from 4HI to 4LO and the indicator flashed for about 15 seconds or so like it was trying to move to 4LO.... but then it stopped flashing and the indicator stayed lit for 4HI. I hit the gas to see if it was in 4LO and it seemed like it was but I am not sure. I am thinking it was still in 4HI.

Anyone have this happen? Anyone think something is seriously wrong with the transfer case? I don't know what to think other than have the dealer look at it. :ugh::ugh:

I may be wrong, but isn't the trans supposed to be in neutral before it will shift to 4LO?

yup you're right.....

Shifting Into Four-Wheel Low
To shift to Four-Wheel Low, the vehicle’s engine must
be running and the vehicle must be stopped or moving
less than 2 mph (3.2 km/h) with the transmission in
NEUTRAL (N). The preferred method for shifting into
Four-Wheel Low is to have your vehicle moving
1 or 2 mph (1.6 to 3.2 km/h). Turn the knob to
Four-Wheel Low. You must wait for the Four-Wheel Low
indicator light to stop flashing and stay on before
shifting the transmission into gear.
If you turn the knob to Four-Wheel Low when your
vehicle is in gear and/or moving, the Four-Wheel Low
indicator light will flash for 30 seconds and not
complete the shift unless your vehicle is moving less
than 2 mph (3.2 km/h) and the transmission is in
NEUTRAL (N). After 30 seconds, the transfer case will
return to the setting last chosen.

Ok I actually feel better already. I was thinking "park" was the same as "neutral" as far as the transfer case is concerned. It must have tried and then switched back to 4HI because I wasn't in neutral.

I used to have an S10 Blazer years ago and I think I used to switch to it from "park", but then again that had the old throw lever so I'm sure its a little different. :bonk: Thanks guys :hail:
