Made my annual trek to see all the new iron.
The Chevy stand had a white TBSS - stripped down version. Literally no options! I was really hoping to see how the leather interior looked/felt, but it was not to be. Can't for the life of me figure out why they put a "stripper" here in what is arguably the craziest car culture area of the country.
An interesting (to me) observation:
As you faced the front of the Chevy stand, to the left they had the Z06, Corvette Coupe and Convertible lined up and the three cars were absolutely *mobbed* by people.
To the immediate right was a stand with the new Aveo and a pretty girl to give the pitch. No one, I mean *no one* bothered to give the Aveo a second look. Hmmm.
I talked to a Chevy guy in the booth for a long time to tell him they should build the Camaro, etc. Basically, he said the car guys at Chevrolet hear us, but the corporate guys at GM, who ultimately call the shots, are *this* >< close to writing off boomers and only building cars for the "younger" buyer." He said GM marketing folks think the younger buyers are only interested in gadgets and technology, rather than cubic inches and horsepower. As for the Camaro, he said he wouldn't be surprised if they made it V6 FWD only!
He told me if we are passionate about the direction Chevy is going, we need to go to chevy.com and give them 110% of our passion. If enough people do it, it might sway the corporate guys.
So, if you really care, email 'em there. (www.chevy.com)
BTW, a friend just picked up a Cayenne Turbo today and gave me a ride. Talk about ferocious acceleration for an SUV! If the TBSS can out-pull the Cayenne, as many of you have said, count me in!!!
