After fighting the brake dust issue for a couple months, I bought ceramic pads from my GM dealer. Price--$85 per set. Not a lick of dust for 3 weeks and keeping the TBSS clean has gotten alot easier. I don't know why the pads aren't standard issue. Maybe they don't last as long. Who cares. Give them a try.

ceramic dont stop as well as semi metallic.....
I just put ceramics and rotors all around and I love it. I have the 17"polished aluminum wheels with the gold haze and I can now keep them cleaner. I didn't notice any change in the stopping power/distance. I would recommend ceramics to all TRAILVOY members. Clean and quiet.

Yeah ceramics by far have way less dust...Well maybe the same just that the material is lighter so you see it less. Has anyone tried the brand Hawk?

Only heard good things about them, however, I'm running the Pepboys ceramics.

I've just replaced my own front pads (the second time) with NAPA's newest offering, the "Adaptive One" pads. They are a combination ceramic and semi-metalic set with two different pad compositions on the inner and outer. They stop really well compared to the top of the line Autozone semi-metalic pads that I was running -- and so far, no dust either.

Are they worth it? I have 38K on my originals and I'm looking for an upgrade.

03 envoy with OEM Ceramics, 88k on them and still looks go.These brakes will make to 95k or 100k.When it comes time to replace them, nothing but the OEM pads.I don't care what they cost.I have never had pads last this long on a truck that tips the scale at the weight that the Envoy does.

Are you sure they are OEM ceramics, My 02 Voy came with semi-metallic. Did you replace the stock ones originally with OEM ceramics? Just curious.

My rotors have such big lips on them I'm not even sure they can be turned! I have only 24k Miles on the truck, however I did do 40 minutes of HOT LAPPING at BeaveRun which worked those brakes. Does anyone know the minimum SPEC for the rotor thickness where it can still be turned? My truck is a LEASE and I have only 5 months left. I just had to buy tires (thank you tire rack @ $110 each!) and I need pads but I would love to skip the rotors if I can!!! As far as the PADS go I will probably go with the ceramic GM pads. Price is the best I have seen considering they are OEM and less Brake Dust would be GREAT!!!
Thanks!!!

I just went through this a week ago. At 16k miles, my front rotors were gone and the brakes had about 5000 miles left on them...if that. I was installing Delco ceramics at the time and the rotors could not be turned (too thin), so it was new front rotors with the pad install and turning the rears. I've had them on for 1000 miles now and I haven't had a stitch of brake dust!! WoooHooo!!

Everything I have read/heard about ceramics has been positive and I keep telling myself next time.... next time...... but never do. For whatever reason at the time I've ended up going with the combination ceramic/metallics which have been decent although the dust is still a factor. Next time though...... :dielaugh:
And for those of you who have the blues about replacing the brakes on your truck, this should help to make things seem not so bad. Aerostar owners will back me up on this 100%!!
I have a '96 Aerostar extended. These vans, while considered a 'minivan' have as much if not more room inside and are just as heavy as a full sized van. They're also just as heavy and they're ride is high profile. Unfortunately, Ford, in their infinite wisdom, chose the Ranger chassis as the foundation for these beasts but didn't compensate for the added weight by up-sizing the wheels. They kept the 14" wheel spec. This makes for abnormal weight being thrown forward onto the rotors thereby eating the crap out of the pads - like fast..... like big time! Like..... you wouldn't believe how often these vans go through front pads! :hissy: They also warp the rotors which makes for having to have them turned every other time the pads are replaced. I typically replace the pads on the van at least (but probably more often if I actually dug out the service record) once a year! It's a known issue with these vans. Don't get me wrong, I have loved the ownership experience the entire time I've owned it - with the exception of having to change the spark plugs (you can't imagine the fun to be had doing this task! :hahano: ) and the brake issue. In contrast, I've only changed the rear shoes twice in the 10 yrs I've owned it.
