A friend of mine has a DEI unit installed in his 03 TB; haven't talked to him about it in awhile to see how he likes it. Apparently the dealership installed it for him.

One thing to keep in mind is there are a couple bulletins stating that aftermarket alarms and remote starters can cause damage to the catalytic converter and ultimately harm the engine because of misfires and backfires. ;)

i've heard a lot of remote starters can kill your battery quicker. Is that true? I have a guy that leaves a few blocks away that has had one on every car he's ever owned and loves them.

I have a DEI unit installed that works with my factory remote. I brought my Trailblazer use a year old and it was already on there.I had to figure out what buttons to push because the dealership where I brought it didn't know.I like it and use it a few times in the summer and winter .;)

How could a remote starter cause misfires and/or cat. damage? You're just starting the engine, why would it cause it to run poorly?

especially since the ignition in this car acts like a momentary switch, doesn't matter how long or short you turn the key, always get just enough cranking to start the engine. I could see older cars maybe it is an issue but, yeah, ignore that post in reference to trailvoys.

I really want to get one soon, but I am torn between the viper 771x b/c everyone is crazy about it and the code alarm CA-630 pro. After all of the good things everyone is saying, I am leaning towards the viper. Also, for those of you who installed it yourself, how long did it take to wire it up?

Add one more vote for the DEI products. I have the Clifford RSX3.5, which is the same as the Viper 791 and the Python 881 (I think those are the right models). I've had it for about 2 years now with no real problems except for when I got water in a siren and shorted it out. That happened after driving through a really major downpour. I blame it on the install to some extent, but water shouldn't have been able to get to where my sirens are mounted. I am still a fan though, and I'd recommend it. I had it installed and my windows tinted. . Not sure what the install time is on these.

i have a viper auto start, works great, starts truck from 1000ft away, it's great for hot summer days,i leave the a/c on high, and start the truck, let it run for a few minutes to cool off, before leaving for work, same in the winter, leave the heat and defrost on, so windows are clear and truck is warm, it also has aoption where you leave truck running[ like at a deli, when i get coffee on the way to work], and i take the keys with and lock the truck

I was about to have one installed, but I wussed out at the last minute. I'm just worried about someone cutting and splicing so many wires. It's a lot of money to replace all that computer crap.

they don't do alot of splicing anymore, most have plug in wiring harnesses

In a whispering tone... someone should do an article on installing a viper remote start system.

I'd like to install this myself if its easy :)

If I get the Viper, I will make an install guide. But, first I need to finish the clearance light one!!

Theyre installed and working great!! I am workng on an article now, but a trip came up and I leave Wed-Sat, so it will be pushed back again to sometime next week. I try to do a step or two at a time, but I didnt take as many pics as I wanted too. But, due to the amount of pics in the other articles, it should be pretty easy to get the rights pics.
