My 2006 needs pads and rotors at 25K miles so I ordered OEM parts online and picked them up at a dealer. The rotors were not in stock so they had to do what they called a "Spec Case" to find them. Rotors have a grey coating on them that does not come off with brake cleaner. They are also Bosch Rassini rotors with this code on them - 02042J2994. So here's the odd part.....there's a bright orange tag attached to both rotors that say "Prototype Material - Not for Production Use!" with the words "Prototype" and "Not for" crossed out. What's the story?????????

You also didn't post a part number of what the dealer gave you.
My conspiracy theory is the vendor made a run of rotors that initially were prototypes. When GM approved them, the run was allowed into production.
As for R1 concept rotors, I have heard a lot of folks satisfied with them. I have also heard of dissatisfaction. The complaint was that rust was forming in the holes and slots and looked bad. YMMV.

Yea, T-Macs are rusting and he never drives it in the rain and it doesnt see winter. Pyroguy I believe is very happy with RotorPros for about the same $$$ except they are coated in the holes and slots...

like i told people before on any new rotors you get buy brake clean clean them then spray entire rotor with vht hi temp brake paint. I did that on mine, my dads, my sisters, and 8 customers cars and no rustings probs. The people that rust all say they saw the section on the surface that wasnt coated didnt think much of it.
For the price im happy and reguardless any rotors you get over time wil rust. You paint them with vht like in my cases and others I did for customers no probs.
