The SS is broken in so its time to go hit the track tonight. I need to get some baseline numbers so I can tell what the different mods do for me, especially when I get my hands on a handheld programmer here in the near future (more on that later as the situation developes:thumbsup: ).

Anyway, does anyone have any launching tips for me from the 2wd SS camp? I've been messing around on the street, and it seems like a powerbraked launch results in copious amounts of tire spin, but just stabbing the gas seems to slightly bog before I am outta there. I have no doubts my truck is going to be getting a lot of attention at the track tonight, so I just want to make sure I put on a good showing. The last time I was out there for an F-body meet with my brother I must have had 25 people ask me if I was gonna run!!!

Do you have a video camera?

If so, you should do a documentary type thing asking people what they think about the SS, as well as the run(s) you do.....then post it on here.

I do have a video camera which I plan on bringing tonight. I'll see what I can do about posting it.

Awesome, have fun! I can't wait until mine is broken in. I've never been to the track before, but they are organizing an event here at work called "Run What You Brung". They did it last year too. It's being held over at Milan Dragway in Michigan. Date isn't set yet, but I'm going whenever it is!

My AWD launch technique:

1. Turn off stabilitrac.
2. After staging put in Neutral.
3. Revs up to 3000+. Brake as hard as you can (left foot)
4. Revs off to idle.
5. Tranny into D or 3 (doen't matter)
6. Torque load to 2000 RPM.
7. Let her fly on Green.

get a look at the surface, walk on it (like you belong there!) and you'll know how hard you can leave, bring it to 1800-2k and leave, try matting it to the floor, if too much spin, same technique but lower the pedal while saying a 4 or 5 syllable word, i used this to launch a FWD V8 (LS4), best 60' of anyone around out of that car. I used to say Hippopotamus, and it worked like a charm, 2.0 60' on street tires from a 303HP fwd GXP..if it's a good track prep, you won't have a problem..

make sure you post all the variables, temp, wind, baro, altitude, how much fuel in the truck and tire pressure (run 25-28 in rears)..thanks and good luck.

Just curious. What's the point of steps 2-4? I drive a 6spd.

I think it's to pump the brakes up??

my track when you're staged the tree starts in 2sec. not enough time for that..if it's that bad by a trans brake!!:D

and this is key!!!!!don't let off the gas until you're WAY past the end of the Qtr. I have a habit of thinking it's over and there was probably another 100+' left!!!:duh:

In neutral getting the revs up increases the vacuum and the hold power of the brakes. Allows you to torque load higher.

Yea, I can vouch for that! I was experimenting with it on my 02, and it made a HUGE difference doing a simple light-to-light test. Without going to neutral, it launched okay, but no wheelspin or locker action. When I did, I could spin both tires (slightly wet surface) with ease and could power brake to about 2200RPMs before it started moving.

I got one that was really good, broke the rear end loose for probably 100ft (could feel the engine revving to 4500rpms, but speed wasnt going up as fast and when I eased the pedal back, the rear straightened and no problems.
(Gotta do this: I do not recommend doing this on street because it could be potentially dangerous and take no responsibility for your actions.)
