I am considering havinf a custom alt made for my sound system, i talked to a guy and he quoted 649 bucks. I am wondering if it is really worth it. The one he will make will put out 200 amps so i was wondering what i have right now.

If you have RPO code (label in glove box) KG4 then it is 150 amps. Other than that I don't know.

dont pay that, thats insane. I have a friend who put an alternator from an ambulance on his car and it worked fine. I can't remember how much power he said it put out, but it was alot. He ran a throbbin system off it with no capacitors or extra batteries. I think he got it at a junk yard or somethin. If I were you I'd look into one from a large truck before droppin 650 bucks into an alternator. btw- it took up the same amount of space as his stock alt
