I just changed the air filter in my '05 Envoy and was curious on how the stock airbox works. After looking under the top portion of the box, it seems that air can enter the front of the box and bypass the filter, allowing unfilterd air into the intake. I'm sure that I'm missing something here :weird: . Can someone please explain how this works? Thanks!

there are 2 seperate chambers. the rear one is sealed, its just a resonator. it doesn't connect to the opening in the front chamber

what would happen if you sealed off the small hole to the resonator and didn't put the cover back on over the filter?

might sound a little louder. plus you'll probably be sucking in hotter air from around the exhaust headers without something to block it off.
