I was the president of the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad during college. All volunteer. I was putting in at least 30 hours a week there.

With the new job in the real world I am unable to keep that up. I haven't looked much into it yet... I'd like to get back into it though.

These are some response videos and news clips from when I was there.

http://i4.ytimg.com/vi/CakoycWCXww/default.jpg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CakoycWCXww) http://i2.ytimg.com/vi/isxNPrnTnH4/default.jpg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isxNPrnTnH4) http://i3.ytimg.com/vi/22MlfsxQdig/default.jpg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22MlfsxQdig)

We tried to keep the speeds reasonable because of pedestrians, so that's why it looks like I'm going so slow in the videos.

Great forum idea!

I've been a volunteer firefighter for almost 11 years between 2 different departments, serving 2 years as a chief engineer and 1 year as a lieutenant.

I started as an EMT in 2000. I became a nationally registered paramedic in July of 2006.

I currently work 2 full-time jobs. I work as a paramedic/supervisor for Lifestat Ambulance Service in Saltsburg, PA; and a paramedic for Murrysville Medic One in Murrysville, PA.

I'm a 5 year firefighter in Nassau County, NY. Must say, I beat the hell out of my truck going to the firehouse, and nothing major has happened, just minor neusances. One of them being the headlights/interior lights dim when I really step on the gas, as well as randomly....GM can't figure out what's wrong. Will post pictures up of my setup soon, as well as video, but for a brief rundown:

6-way Whelen Strobe 90W power supply (2 in front turn signal lenses, 2 in reverse lights, 2 in brake lights in an X pattern) - strobe box mounted under the driver seat

whelen headlight flashers, unit mounted under the hood

whelen B/B talon in windshield, mounted right below RV mirror (wish it would fit above it)

2 whelen tir 3s in the grill

2 whelen type (chinese knock off) talons in back window, mounted to headliner

whelen handheld siren/light controller HHS2100 to control everything, expensive put practical

dynamax 100w speaker mounted under some type of plate under the hood.

That is the most true statement I have ever heard. You have not lived until you're interior and the fire is rolling over your head

Fire is alive. It is awesome, and when respected, can be contained :)

Interior is awesome (until the fire is out....then it's just work )

One thing you have to remember... Aetna goes through A LOT of members being a big college town. They have to take time to figure out who they will take on and who not to take on. If they took every person who applies they would be spending a lot of money on training and gear. They have a pretty large turn over there. Just be glad you got in... now go make us proud brother!! I was an active FF/EMT with Station 16 (Elsmere) and Stations 3,6&12 (Christiana) for about 16 years.

Maybe I will run into you on a fire ground some time. While not active in the fire service right now.. I am very active as a Capt. with the Red Cross Disaster Action Team in New Castle County.

Hey, I work Evidence Collection for POLICE and I recently bought a BCT15 scanner for my 05 LS and i need some ideas on where to mount the damn thing. it is a DIN E size. which means same size as an aftermarket best buy radio. I wanna see the display but avoid the top of the dash.. any suggestions??? oh and anyone got beef with glass mount antennas?? THANKS!!:thx

Bthracer21
02-05-2009, 08:31 AM
Good choice in scanners. A suggestion for mounting the scanner, search around the CB radio threads. That can give you an idea on where and also a visualization of how rather than just words like I am about to give you. I had a smaller CB that I had mounted to the driver side of the center console. I put it down on the carpeted section. I had a good view of it and it was with in easy reach to turn on and off, change the channels and such. As for the glass mounted antenna some of the members here use the for their CBs. Me personally I have my Low Band antenna mounted on the drivers side pretty much straight across from the factory radio antenna. Here is a link to the pics of that http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=42947 . I made my own mounting bracket for the antenna and used the rear bolt to the hood bracket to secure it. Hope this helps.
