Hey guys, I just bought an '04 Envoy SLT 4WD on Tuesday, and joined the forum today! :) It didn't come with a manual, so I've ordered one on eBay, but have a question that hopefully someone here can answer. When the truck is in 2WD, there is a small light above that setting on the switch. When I switch it to A4WD, the light above the 2WD goes out, but DOES NOT light up above the A4WD. It does appear to go in to A4WD though.... if I then switch to 4HI, it will light up as such... switching back to 2HI lights up as 2HI. My question is should it light up when it's put in A4WD? If so, is it just the switch, or actually the light in the switch, that's acting up as it appears to be going in to 4WD?
Thanks in advance!:)

This is the regular 4 wheel drive switch (knob) that is under the climate control... It lights up when it's selected for 2 wheel drive, and lights up when it's selected for 4 wheel, but NOT for A4WD.... should it?

In the TBs, it DOES light up. I can only assume it SHOULD light up on your Envoy. Can you hear the transfewr case engaging, when you switch to A4WD? Kind of a whirring, clicking sound? If so, you know the switch is working. Although, the contacts in the switch can become dirty an non-functional or intermittent. turn the switch back and forth several time to clean the contacts. But, if you can hear a sound from your transfer case when you turn the switch to A4WD, then the switch is probably working, and just has a light out.

Yes there is a light for all the positions on the knob. Then you start the TB all the lights will come briefly. If you want to look at the owners manual, go to the top of the this page and roll over the Resources tab then click OEM manuals.

Great, thanks for the quick responses, and also thanks for the tip about the manual!
