I have 2 Cerwin Vega 10 inch subs and an audiobaun 1200 watt amp. Everything else in my stereo setup is stock. The stereo sounds pretty good (i plan on replacing the speakers and headunit eventually).

Theres just one problem...rattles.

There are only about three rattles and i know where they are coming from but how to stop them is another story. The loudest and most annoying rattle comes from the little loop thing that you shut the back hatch with. It apparently bounces off of the hatch and sounds like a new kind of percussion instrument. Should i just cut the thing off?

The other rattles come from where the window switch panel meets the plastic piece under it. Could glueing them together damage the plastic?

Thanks for you help.

Remember you are driving a chevy (ie. lots of plastic). It rattles under the best conditions, never mind blowing 1200 watts thru it.

Some clear glue should work on the little spots (at least for a while).

The subs arent loud...like i said...they are 10's anybody familiar with the aftermarket stereo realm knows that 10's are basically the smallest thing you can buy. But maybe you're right...

Even 10's can cause deafness when turned up loud in a confined space like the interior of your TB.

I also don't like sitting at a stoplight and having to watch for my windows to break because someone else's music is loud and shaking my truck. :m2:

I'm all for upgrading audio systems (including subs) but not for playing it at an unreasonable volume. Just do what it takes to get yourself better sound quality, but if it's rattling other interior trim pieces, it's probably distorting the sound too. That's hardly the goal you should have.

Have you considered adding sound deadener?

I would agree on the sound material. If the handle is vibrating, just warp it in cloth, or remove it. The rest of the rear I would Dynomat. Makes a world or difference. I had considered doing it to quiet outside noise down. Works both ways.

The music isnt loud!!!! The friggin subs are right by the handle the way i have them positioned...i wouldnt have made the thread if i wanted the "turn the music off" answer.

What i asked is if anyone has a solution for the rattle. BTW the stereo made the other rattles occur when it was stock.

Remember there are gaps between panels, and things held together by clips. Unless you glue everything together so it's stationary, there will always be SOMETHING there to rattle. Sound deadener helps, but even that isn't perfect.

I noticed that its not the actual panel thats rattling, its something inside the door (handle, lock etc). I've taken my panels off about 5 times w/ the hope of stopping it...but i recently relized that its inside the door

Try the self expanding spray foam :p

Just kidding. Have you looked at the bolts for the window track and motor? Mine where loose on the front driver side door of my last Silverado took me a week to find it, but it went away after being tighten. I have seen them come loose on other vehicles also.

How much trouble is it to install sound deadener?

How much should I expect to pay?

Installing sound deadener takes lots of TIME. Once you decide what you want to sound deadenen, then you have to remove trim and anything else to get to a bare surface. Most of the time is in prep work.

I decided to apply sound deadener to my Envoy because I didn't like the drone from the newly installed Borla exhaust system. To do the install I wanted, it was necessary to remove the seats, carpet, console, lot of electronics and trim panels. Once I got the bare surface, I could begin the install. I put down two layers of brownbread from www.bquiet.com and also put down some of their heavier Vcomp on flat surfaces of the floors and doors. One of the places that was giving me the most resonance and road noise was the area above and behind the rear wheels. That area is one big echo chamber once you remove the trim.

I also did the doors. Removed the door panels and weather shield and again two layers of the brownbread and some Vcomp using 3M trim adhesive.

I probably used 150+ sq ft of brownbread and 20+ sq ft of Vcomp. I can't give you a total cost, because I underestimated the amount of material and had to order multiple times.

There are other makers of sound deadener, some way more expensive than brown bread and some cheaper. I settled on brown bread because of the positive testimony from a lot of guys that have used it on fullsizechevy.com
I concur with their results and it doesn't smell or run in the heat.

Do a google on sound deadener and check out some web sites. The sites will also have some install pics.
