Personally, if I were to get a no-name intake, I'd get one of the ones that comes with a K&N. They're about the same price as a replacement K&N for the TrailVoys anyway. :m2:

Whats the difference between a chrome intake vs name brand such as (Volant, airaid, and k&n)? Besides the chrome gets hotter. Can you tell the difference between the intakes? I want to buy a name brand but I can't afford it at this time.

well a major issue for you is that the expensive ones are CARB certified. you'll fail visual inspection if you get one that is "for off-road use only"

simply a disclamer from the company stating they aren't respnsible if it void your warrenty or doesn't pass inspection. You see this a lot with certain aftermarket products. No difference in performance.

ok thanks Fishhunter911. Has anybody had a problem passing smog test? Here in cali. If I put an intake is there a chance that i might have problems with the o2 sensor?

The intake you are looking at is not the one I would choose. I highly doubt the intake tube is chrome, it is probably polished like mine. The filter that comes with that E-Bay kit is not a K&N and I have seen the after market filters like that one tear up when it is cleaned and recharged. There are other comparable air systems on E-Bay that you may want to look at. The one that is close to the one I purchased is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-04-ENVOY-TRAILBLAZER-BRAVADA-4-2L-V6-Air-Intake-W-CF_W0QQitemZ8035593013QQcategoryZ38634QQrdZ1QQcmdZ ViewItem
However, I didn't get the tube that requires the top air box to be removed so the tube could attatch directly to the throttle body. Also, the filter is constructed a bit better and the tubing is polished and requires little maintenance so that if heat were a problem the thin chrome coating would not blister from engine heat.
Even though some of the air systems may be out of budget for you currently, the one identified above would probably be a better deal and the filter comes with a heat shield which by my experience seems to work great and reduces the amount of cleaning and recharging.
Just my :m2: .

Wouldn't i just be able to remove the intake and put the stock air system before getting the tb smoged?

I don't know either. I figure smog will be a standard thing for all states.

I don't know either. I figure smog will be a standard thing for all states.there is no emissions testing whatsoever in FL :D CA has the most stringent emissions requirements in the country.

we have emissions here in pa but only in certain counties, and mine is NOT one of em (not a problem with the envoy, but definately woulda been with my mustang or dakota, as neither had a cat on for very long) anyway, seems to me that tubing is just that, tubing, no matter where it comes from, it all depends on what they do to it, i.e. chrome paint ceramic coat, etc.. I was just thinking that this would be a good way to get pre-bent tubing and then buy seprately a cone K&N as I myself have always been a firm beleiver in them and also don't trust a no name generic filter....but all in all i will probably just wait till i can get the typhoon series as thats what i really want anyway.

you'll want to remove the aftermarket intake and reinstall the stock one before smog....CA is very strict...I had a Honda Accord once with a CAI and it failed smog just on visual even though it passed the test as soon as the tech opened the hood he couldn't pass my car:hissy: .....unless it is authorized for standard road use and is CARB certified I'd remove it:m2:...thta's why I'm going to spend the extra bucks on one that is certified, so I won't to remove it when I need smog
