So Tuesday my mechanic friend and I decided we would change the valve in the tranny so that it would be easier on the torque converter. We opened up the tranny yesterday to find that the tranny apparently had water in it at one time. The seperator plate has rust from every part of the valve body that was touching it. The pan had no water in it so someone had obviously known it and swapped out the water for fluid. They had used some POS gaskets that took us about three hours to scrap off of just the valve body not to mention how long my buddy worked on scraping it off he tranny itself last night after I left. I did get a quick picture just to show you guys how bad it looked. Good news is that it doesn't look like it caused it damage but we are going to clean and polish everything so that nothing falls off and slips through the tranny. So far I feel that I have a cursed TB or I am just cursed with it. But it will be like a brand new TB once I get it back together (I put my PCM tune on right before we took it apart). Just wanted to share and vent a little of my frustrations.

So here is a picture of the seperator plate inside my tranny. Good news is we polished everything up and it runs just like new so no long term damage but definitely glad we looked in there before it was too late.

Sure it wasn't a failure of the dipstick tube seal? Theres a TSB about it, my Rainier had rust on the dipstick and in the tube when the transmission failed.
