The other day one of my buddy's in my Unit came to my house at about 9pm to see if i could pull his Ext cab dodge Ram out of the mud. Well i luv the mud so of course i said yes. Arrived there put my truck in 4x4hi and started to head to where his truck was, lots of ruts and mud. After going up the first hill i knew something was wrong, a lot of rear tire spin and fishtailing while going up the hill. To make a long story short i surprisingly got his bottomed out full size ram out of a rut infested mud pit with only 2wd and snapped a tow chain that hit the back of my truck leaving a imprint of the chain all the way up my back window. Didn't break the window but put a lot of small chips in it and broke my 3rd break light. Yes i know it is stupid :duh:to us a chain and i wasn't thinking at the time.
As for my Voy I can hear the actuator engage or at least try. There are no check 4X4 lights, no flashing lights on the 4x4 control knob and absolutely no front axle activity while in a4x4 4hi and 4 lo. my 4x4 module was replaced 2 years ago also. I'm hoping that it might just be a actuator that is out or that it could be solved by a 4x4 update. Anyone have any idea's and also has anyone had the 4x4 update that i have been hearing about.

If the actuator breaks in most of the possible ways, its feedback circuit will not match what it was commanded to do, and the control module will see that and flash the light, and set the "service 4WD" light on also.
I assume you are able to tell the front axle actuator whine from the transfer case lower frequency noise? The front axle actuator will ONLY whine between 2WD and A4WD. Once it's engaged, going to 4HI or 4LO will not make it move again. Only the transfer case motor makes a noise between each of the four states. Make sure you're listening to the right thing.
Remove the actuator if you want to confirm it's running up close. I posted pics of this earlier.
I would guess you tore off some wires, except that would flash the lights.
Hope it's not internal mechanical damage.

Last year mine would not go into 4 wheel drive and it was low on fluid. I put in a couple of quarts of Autotrac II and everything was fine.

well the same guy that got his dodge stuck ended up getting it stuck again. So i went out to pull him out again and decided to pay more attention to how my truck was acting while in 4hi. Turns out that my 4whl drive is working but it seems like something isn't working right. Everyone that was watching said that my front tires were spinning a little but no where near the same as my rear tires were. I'm not to sure how to explain it but basically they said it almost like my rear tires were spinning 10 times more than my front were. kinda like every time my rear tire made a revolution my fronts maid about a 1/8th or so revolution. When i used to go mudding or driving in the snow last year if i had my truck in 4wheel drive my front and rear tire usually where spinning the same now its as if my front axle is delayed or something. I don't know if this has to do with changing my rear end to a Eaton posi track. I'm kinda lost and think I'm going to send it in to a tranny shop to try to get some better answers. On a side note i did notice that i do have a slight transfer case leak, about a class 1-2 it has fluid that is starting to build up under it but not enough to drip. Oh and on another side note these tire chains that i got from http://tirechain.com/emergency_strap_on-suv-lighttruck.htm work pretty fukin good:thumbsup:

Assuming you had both sides of the rear being observed, and both sides were spinning, then you must have a transfer case problem. Either internally with the clutches, or with the side-mounted encoder motor that commands the position of the clutch pack to send torque forward to the front diff. If there's no warning lights, I'd assume the encoder motor is doing its thing properly and the problem is internal. Tough to diagnose without knowing how to swap one out or rebuild it.
A delayed action on the front wheels is like it's in A4WD mode. Were you trying 4LO or 4HI? In 4LO there's no possibility of delayed action or designed-in slipage. The transfer case should be as locked up as possible front to back.
