My fiancé was stopped at a light on an off ramp with a slight incline. She put the truck into neutral and let off the brake, so the truck rolled back a little. Then the light turned green and she revved the engine a little bit before shifting it back into drive. After moving forward a little bit the 4LO light on the selector turns on and the truck is in 4LO even though the selector is still on 2WD. She was able to pull over and put the truck into 4HI then back into 2WD. Is this feature by design or is this something I should be worried about? The truck seemed fine for the next 1/2 mile home.

Sometimes the switches just tend to go all wack :weird: But it might be a safety feature that GM included :undecided

The switches can go whack, but that is definately not a GM safety feature, shifting the transfer case into 4LO at any speed above ~3mph is really bad for the entire driveline.

this is commonly happens when your encoder motor goes, it will shift it into 4lo and you wont be able to take it out, reguardless of where the switch posistion is.

I'm more likely to have a problem getting into 4lo with having to put it into N first. This is definitely something I'd get checked out ASAP. :m2:

whether I am moving or parked, I can not get my engine into the 4lo position.. the light will fix on 4hi just fine, but then when I move the knob to 4lo it will flash for a few seconds and then return to 4hi.. what could be wrong?

Did you follow the instructions in the owner's manual? It says how to change, but it should work fine if you follow it. My guess is that someting's not right (i.e. speed of vehicle) and that won't let you put it into 4Lo :undecided

put the truck in neutral before switching to 4LO the vehicle MUST be going less than 2MPH and in neutral in order to engage 4LO
there is a Recall for the transfer case on some model years for a fractured piece, someone will post it before i can find it.
PS NEVER EVER EVER switch the Xfer case to nutral with the engine running =/ i have done this once a LONG time ago and it sounded like it was going to explode. so i paniced and slamed it in park .. GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRROWLLLL
