It snowed a little this morning, the roads were lightly covered, so I decided to use A4wd on my way to work. I was going about 30 mph and let off the gas. I could feel and hear a grinding noise and a couple thumps. I could feel the vibration at my feet through the floor. When I came to a stop I switched it back to 2 hi. the light blinked for a while then another thump and then the light switched to 2 hi. What do you think the problem may be?

Sounds like the encoder motor might be a little sluggish.

When were the fluids last changed and how often do you put it in 4wd to move the fluids around?

I havent changed the fluid. I bought it used. I rarely put it in 4wd (winters only). Is there a way to check the fluid?
