Since you have air ride, it could just be that the height sensors need to be adjusted. They are in the wheelwell just above the tire. Somebody had pictures posted in an old thread. They're attached with two bolts with slotted holes to you can loosen them for adjusting. Very sensitive, so don't move them a lot.

Shocks, unless they're adjustable air shocks, don't contribute to ride height. They just absorb shocks. Even gas pressurized shocks don't push up with much more than 20 pounds force, much less than the 1500 lbs or so on each corner.

are the height sensors on both rear wheelwells or does the two bolts control both sides. if the latter is the case I am assuming that they are on the same side as the compressor

I found the picture that was posted by another member. He removed one of the bolts altogether so he could rotate the sensor way up to effective lower the vehicle. I was wrong, and the sensor is a lot closer to the brake caliper.
