Is it possible that the reason for the first to second gear lousy feeling shift is so you don't break parts in the driveline, especially of the AWD version? I had a '70 Nova that would break the back tires loose on 1-2 and 2-3 just in normal driving, but that was with a 355cid, B&M tranny and full posi rear end, and it had to be putting a heck of a stress on everything under the car, but it was a blast. I would love my SS to feel something like that but not at the expense of the drivetrain.:undecided

You need a Vector Tune!
Installed mine today and Good Bye 1-2 shift Sh-t.
The truck shifts like it should.Worth every penny just for the shift correction.
Plus added HP.

If you're referring to the "lag" at the 1-2 WOT shift, then correct it is there to protect the tranny. The Vector-Tune still retains this "feature" to an extent.

The lag between the 1-2 shift is the "comfort" zone .. MOST people dont want a harsh shift between gears, so the factory does this to make it more comfortable.
The lag is a delayed engagement of the gears, which translates to more slippage in the transmission and more heat buildup.
A faster shift is actually better for the transmission engagement, but of course, does transfer additional stress to other parts of the driveline .. nothing im sure your vehicle couldnt handle unless of course you had ALOT more horsepower going to the wheels.
Your B&M transmission had quick shifting because of a modified valve body seperator plate inside of the transmission ( bigger hole = faster fill time for the 1-2 capacity valve = quicker shift )
The PCM tune accomplishes this faster shift by increasing Line pressure inside of the transmission .. more line pressure = faster fill time = quicker shift. Too much line pressure can be a bad thing but I dont think they are using excessive pressure in the Tune. Shift points are also changed to wind out the gears a little longer.
The correct way to make your transmission shift faster would be to modify the seperator plate ( Shift kit ), use a stiffer spring for the 1-2 capacity valve ( may be included in the kit ), and to use a reprogrammed PCM ( more line pressure ) .. in addition to these modifications, I would highly recommend investing in a Transmission Cooler ( stacked Plate style ). You can do any combination of things if you want to get rid of the Comfort zone.
