I'm going to be getting new tires in the next couple of months and I want to go with a more aggressive tread. I know some people that work at a Firestone shop and I can get a pretty good deal.
What tire would you recommend out of the brands they would carry?
When shopping for tires what types of maintaince and service packages do you usually look for?

I just bought Firestone Destination A/Ts, and I like em. :m2:
Rated #1 in their category on tirerack.com too.

Those are the Firestones I see the most of besides the Dueler A/T Revos. But, the Revos only have a 40K warrenty and cost a lot!! I got my Toyo Open Country A/Ts for like 1/2 the price (~$500 vs $850-900).

I would recommend the Dueler Revos. They wear very well and are an all around great tire. I'm on my second set on my Jimmy. I removed the first set at 30K because I went to a larger wheel. The tires still looked like new!
If they made the Revo in a 245/65/17 I'd have some on my TB.

any tire you get can last a long time just remember 3 things
1. alignment maintenance once a year unless you hit something
2. air pressure once a month check and set
3. rotate balance every 3500 miles

:iagree:
I don't rotate quite that often. I do about every 5-6k. Also, I don't run the tires as low as the door sticker says, I've never done that. The tire pressure recommended on the door sticker is always too low IMO. The max pressure on my Revos is 45psi and I run them about 38 sometimes 40. Running them too low hurts gas mileage and sometimes causes uneven wear.

I have the Toyo's and am happy with them. They did great in the snow this winter. I did go up one size when I got them.

I also bought the Toyos but wish I would have gotten the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors. Granted they are a little pricey, they are well worth it. Even The Roadie uses them.

my rotate is based on city driving and when you increase the psi over what gm states you reduce the contact patch of the tire affecting things like handling and braking, but you will get better mpg

Thanks for the testimonial. As I said, and not everybody reads all the old threads, this is the most satisfying set of tires I've ever had in over 35 years of driving. Aggressive off-road, but not scary-looking or highway-noisy tread. Tough sidewalls for those nasty rocks and tree hazards. I trust them so much I cheaped out (oh, the horror!) and didn't buy an identical spare, but I carry two of the OEM tires for spares if I'm far offroad without a convoy.
For folks who don't go offroad, consider the GY Fortera Silent Armors. Same kevlar plus two steel layers.

That's debatable. Running the 32 or whatever GM recommends almost underinflates the tire. At that PSI the tread almost bows up like an upside down bowl. You can tell by the wear on the outside edges while the middle tread isnt' as worn. Now if you overinflate the opposite happens and you wear the middle faster.
Most tires anymore have a max rating that's much higher. :undecided
