Hey guys...whats the best way to remove the body moldings that run down the side of the TB's??? I would imagine they are just stuck on with some type of tape or glue....whats the best way to remove them without damaging the vehicle and getting all the resadue off the truck????

I hear that using fishing line is the best way to do it.. Also make sure it's warm, the adhesive will loosen a bit when it's warmer (if it's not actually warm, then use a hair drier). I haven't tried it yet, but that's how it's been explained to me.

Rob has got you started. Get some 3M adhesive remover, goof off, goo gone or similiar and soak the heck out of the moulding you are going to remove. Then use fishing line, dental floss or similiar to "saw" the trim away from the finish. You will have adhesive left on the panel, so need more adhesive remover and lots of thumb work to get the rest off. Take it easy and you can reuse or sell the removed moldings, as there is a demand for them.
A couple of suggestions, use a couple of wood sticks to wrap the line or floss around instead of your fingers, or wear gloves. Rubber gloves will save the thumbs also. There is a product made by 3M, called an adhesive eraser that is put on the end of an electric drill that will remove leftover adhesive, but some folks don't like it. Polish the area when adhesive removed, and then wax.

I actually tried a new trick today which may help to avoid the adhesive eraser (which scares the crap out of me as a professional, BTW) -- the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. The MCME actually does a pretty nice job of removing adhesive in those types of situations. I had to remove a dealership logo sticker from the back of a car and it came off like a charm with the MCME.

BTW what year and color is your truck? If it's a black or pewter (that matches my color) '05 TB or Envoy Denali, I might be interested in buying the moldings you remove from your truck if the price is right. :m2:

Now the MCME scares the crap out of me. I have used it twice in the house and have had disaster both times, because of its abrasiveness. JMHE.

Easy solution to that though -- learn a gentile touch! Seriously if you just let the eraser do the work and don't apply much pressure, it'll work out fine. Much safer than putting a power drill to your paint! :m2:

And as far as the fishing line goes, stronger is not necessarily better. I went and bought the thickest line i could (50 lb test) and chewed up the edges of the molding and left minor scratches in the paint. Lots of wax and buffing later, you can't see the scratches... but the edges of the molding are pretty rough now. Luckily, I don't plan on ever putting them back on. :m2:

I am a fan of the rubber eraser, they make the drill bit ones, and they also have a special tool that its only function is to erase. Never had any problems with one, just be careful. Some body shops will do it for free if you already have the moulding removed, or a small fee. You may find it easier to do that.

Are they the grey textured plastic? Hmm.... methinks it's photoshop time. I might be interested unless I decide it would look better with painted ones.

EDIT: Nevermind, that looks like crap. I'm gonna have to hold out on a pair of the LT or envoy denali ones.

Has anyone removed the badges off of the back hatch? I want to remove the "chevrolet" and the "trailblazer" for a cleaner look and possibly put a bowtie on there similar to that of an 05 trailblazer.

Mine are gone. Look in the gallery. They came off right away. The doors are next, just being lazy :D

I took my badges off of my Envoy the day I brought it home. :D

Much easier to keep hatch clean. :m2:

The same trick works for those emblems as for the moldings we already described. :m2:

I agree, this trick makes it very easy and quick on badges and emblems, I've done it on past vehicles I've owned.

My back is all debadged and I removed the side trim designations and door moldings too. I really like the clean look. There are no words or even letters anywhere on the TB except on my license plate (obviously). I did the same thing to my Lumina. But I sold that after I bought the TB. :D

I took them off yesterday...looks great. Didnt have to use fishing line or anything. It was so hot yesterday I just peeled them right off, didnt leave in sticky residue or anything...it all just peeled off.

If anybody is interested in these let me know I will be posting them in the for sale section. What is a good price to ask for these?????

Yes, heat makes them come off much easier. I have had to use a hair dryer in colder weather to get some of the adhesive off.
