Couple questions

I have been lurking around the boards for a while and decided to join today! I have a couple of questions for you. The truck is a 06 SS AWD BONE STOCK.

I'm going to the track tommorow and was wondering what i should run?

Are there any tips that you can give me or any easy/free mods?

I have heard that the IAT sensor is in a bod spot and can cause the truck to run slow in the hot weather.

Also if it matters i'm going to us 41 dragway in Morocco Indiana. Suppose to be about high 70's out.

Run it bone stock first. That will give you a baseline to compare it to next time.:m2:

I would think between 14 and 14.5 bone stock (14.3xx?). Let us know how you did.

Well i went out to us41 yesterday and ran 14.5 first pass. Let the truck cool down and went back up. 14.3! I was realy surprised but happy. Made 2 more passes that resulted in another 14.3.

Not too bad at all!Did you take any weight out or drop the air press. down at all? Head light still in? Try this stuff next time...It might help some.

That was completely stock. I did not know about turning off the stability track til after the day. I do not know if that is worth any et. What can you expect from removing the headlight?

I believe he meant ON. You should turn any electrical components off before a run. It's just keeps the alternator from using power from the engine.

If you remove the headlight by the intake you should get more air in there resulting in a little more hp. Kind of the same way a cold air intake works. I mean mechanically speaking it wouldn't show up on a dyno though.

i only turned my Stabilitrec off to do a burn out.. (I have a 2WD and ran a 14.5 bone stock).. i highly doubt the stabilitrec on or off makes a difference bone stock.. now if you were heavily modded.. then yes it will have to be off

i did this when i ran at noralk, ohio... i also made the modifications as illustrated on ss-shoutout.com to the air filter box and the plastics behind the headlight.. I have the IEATSRT8 CAI.. makes the SS motor Scream...
i wanted to get more runs in at norwalk because my buddy ran a 13.8 bone stock.. so i know mine has the potential to get that low.. if not 14.0...but i couldnt make it back in time before the gates closed...too many people there that day

Free mod:
- Pull right headlight and cut out a lot of the surrounding plastic.

When at track:
1. Pull fuse #61, that's for stabilitrak/trac-control.
2. Remove headlight (good for .2s off the 1/4).
3. Launch by brake-torquing to 1100 RPMs and punching it on 2nd yellow.
4. Remove spare/jacks if you want to shed about 75-100 lbs of extra useless weight.

Stock,full weight AWD should be in the low to mid 14's.

Stock, slightly weight-reduced AWD with headlight out should be in the high 13's to low 14's.
