What do you think? I had boards on my '03 Silverado (2WD) and I really missed them. I went to the parts department at my dealer, and they had them in stock! P/N 12498552, list price $359.00. Put them on by myself in the driveway in the dark with a flashlight in less than an hour. All the bolts and mounting brackets are included.

Sweet! I bought the same boards, too. I was surprised how easy they were to put on! That's one reason I bought the OEM ones, because I figured they would be easier to put on than some aftermarket ones that you would have to configure their brackets to fit. I was able to run all of the bolts in with my fingers prior to tightening them with the ratchet. Unfortunately, I did overtorque one of them  and the head twisted off, but you would never know it by how solid the board is.

Looks good!

I would want them painted to match though.

Personally, I think it makes the truck look beefier. I haven't decided yet to go with the boards, or strip and powdercoat the stainless, chrome plated Westin Sport Side Tubes. Either way, they are great protection. After 4 years of owning my black Envoy with factory boards and flaps, the doors, rockers, and rear quarters were spotless.

The boards look nice. At first I thought to myself it would take away from the sport look(clean lines) of the truck but in that pic they definitely add more of a beefy stance to the SS. The other thing I am changing my opinion on is the window rain guards because I didn't think they would look good either and again they look decent in that pic

2:thumbsup:  , Smart thing to do. You will save your pretty black from getting damaged by the junk on the roads. NO CHIPS on the sides, now have you figured out how you will protect the front as well?

I have had my black SS since November and the two rear door bottoms are chipped to ...... even with flaps. (Vehicle is daily driver in Pgh area) Chevy's answer of repaint and plastic coating doesn't really thrill me. In the spring I will have repainted and was thinking of putting boards on to just stop further chipping. Had a 2002 LT with boards and never had any problems with chips. Looked at some Aztec boards that can be painted to match. Believe you guys have convinced me to go for it. Thanks.

Don't they make factory Anodized boards or the black with chrome edge.....they may look darker to match body better.:undecided
I like the look but I would want them to match better.

Looks good!!

I think the cleanest look is no flaps and no boards. That's fine if you live some place like So. California where the roads are clean and dry most of the time!! The rest of us that have to deal with winter etc need something just to keep the paint!

I don't know about clean. There's freakin potholes all over like everywhere else.:duh:

I think I prefer the running boards to the flaps. It does indeed make it look more beefy.

I remove the flaps & Bug Deflector whenever I go to the track, and plan on the same when the shows start, easy all about 5 minutes to do..

Nice, I have been waiting to see a SS with running boards. If I get an SS, I will definately be getting some running boards, I dont think I could live without them on my 02 now.

But, I wonder if it would be possible to get them colormatched?

lt_xtrm, help us out here, what did you use and how is the pain holding up?

Just imagine driving on a gravel road all winter. That's what it gets like around here when the plow jockeys start dumping the rocksalt down. Not only does it chip your rockers and front bumpers but it also flies up and hits your windshield! That's why people in areas with winter often times have a winter beater so the good vehicle can stay in the garage!

I am really interested in getting a set of these if/when I get an SS because after reading about all of the people on here who have battled with the rock chips and the fact that on my 02 LT with running boards I have absolutely NONE whatsoever, I think it is a good investment for $359, especially when the dealer has them in stock!

For you guys in the east coast area, check out the part number (12498552) at GM Parts Direct www.gmpartsdirect.com (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm). Good price and reasonable shipping cost. :)

Looking at the part number on gmdirect....12498552 is for the gray molded assist step.
There was another part number 19154906..listed as Black molded assist step.
that might go better with the blk SS.Think I'm gona look into it today.

After looking at the OP's pics I ran down to my dealer to buy the set they had in stock. I mentioned GM Parts Direct's price of $301 and they matched it. Anyone visiting their dealer should see if they can get the same discount. Can't hurt to ask. BTW, they were a cake walk to install - 9 bolts per side.

I like that mod but, for a SS??? I think it makes it look like more of a family car than a Performance SUV, thats what i prefer calling the SS sounds alot better,:m2:
